HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCMinutes_2002_06_03 483 Brookings City Council June 3, 2002 The Brookings City Council convened in a planning session on Monday,June 3, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. in the meeting room at City Hall with the following members present: Mayor Virgil Herriott, Council Members Mike McClemans, Tom Bozied, Keri Weems, Scott Munsterman, Sam Artz and Doris Roden. City Manager Michael Williams and City Attorney Steve Britzman were also present. Mayor Herriott called the meeting to order 4:00 p.m. Motion was made by Bozied, seconded by Weems, to adjoum by 6:00 p.m. All present voted yes; motion carried. The Council toured the Brookings Municipal Airport at 3:00 p.m. prior to the meeting. Budget Policv(KI'A#1). The Council reviewed a revised policy. There was consensus to discuss the issue and possibly take action on June 10, 2002. No acrion was taken. Discussion of Larson land uronosal. Gregg Jongeling, City Engineer, provided information on an upcoming land transfer to the Brookings Economic Development Corporation for the expansion of Larson Manufacturing. Action is scheduled for June 10, 2002. No action was taken. Weems left the meering at 4:42 p.m. Renort by Historic Preservation Commission Chairman. Pat Fishback presented information regarding the activities of the BHPC. No action was taken. Liauor O erating A�reement Policv. The Council discussed crearion of an ordinance pertaining to binge drinking. Roden said SDSU conducted a survey on this issue in 1998 and established a task force and educational program that deals specifically with binge drinking. Weems arrived at 5:08 p.m. It was suggested that further research be conducted with local law enforcement,hospital officials,SDSU officials, the States Attorney, mental health professionals, students, and bar owners to determine if there is a problem. No action was taken. �tatus revort on Leadership Team�oals achievement. The Council reviewed the Leadership Team's progress on their goals that were established for 2002. No action was taken. Status reuort on Citv Council goala achievement. The Council reviewed the progress of their own goals that were established at an annual planning retreat on February 26 and 27. No action was taken. A motion was made by Weems, seconded by Bozied, to adjourn.
