HomeMy WebLinkAboutCCMinutes_1999_07_27 163 Commission Chambers July 27, 1999 City of Brookings The City Commission convened in regular session at 2:00 PM with the following members present: Murra, Klavetter, Wicks, Artz and Hauschild. Alan Glover, Attorney was present. Minutes of the regular meeting held July 20, 1999 were read and approved. Motion was made by Murra, seconded by Wicks approving the agenda. Presentation of the 1999 ABLE Award (Ability, Belief, Leadership cmd Equality to Achieve Access for All) to the Brookings Public School System for the George S. Mickelson Middle School by the Mayor's Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities. Bids which were opened today and publicly read were presented at this time: Quality Concrete, Dell Rapids, SD $69,939.00 Smith Construction, Brookings, SD $76,868.44 Mills Construction, Brookings, SD $73,630.00 Motion by Artz, seconded by Wicks approving the low bid in the amount of$69,939.00 from Quality Concrete, Dell Rapids for concrete floor slab and interior finish of Brookings Landfill Machine Shed. All members voted YES; motion carried. Motion by Klavetter seconded by Wicks tabling for one additional week the bid from Mills Construction in the amount of $76,640.00 for a 30' x 48' greenhouse for the Research Facility on 32"d Ave.-tabled from last week. All members voted YES; motion carried. Motion by Klavetter, seconded by Wicks approving re-zoning request for the E200' of the N325' of Block 12, Parkdale Home Addition-tabled from the July 13�`meeting. (SW corner of First Avenue and Harvey Dunn Street). All members voted NO; motion denied. Motion by Wicks, seconded by Murra approving authorization to publish notice of hearing for an on-sale malt bevera�e license for the Multi-Plex. All members voted YES; motion carried. Motion by Wicks, seconded by Artz approving Resolution No. 67-99 authorizing designation of banks as depositories for the Municipat Funds of the City of Brookings. All members voted YES; motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 67-99 RESOLUTION DESIGNATING BANKS AS DEPOSITORY PURSUANT to SDCL 9-22-6 and 6.1, the City Commissioners of the City of Brookings, South Dakota, designates the following banks as depositories for Municipal Funds of the City of Brookings for the ensuing year: First National Bank Norwest Bank BankFirst Brookings Federal Bank Home Federal Savings Bank 164 Motion by Artz, seconded by Klavetter approving Resolution No. 68-99 authorizing designation of The Brookings Register as the official newspaper for the City of Brookings for the ensuing year. All members voted YES; motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 68-99 RESOLUTION DESIGNATING OFFICIAL NEWSPAPER PURSUANT to SDCL 9-22-6, the City Commissioners of the City of Brookings, South Dakota, hereby designates the Brookings Register as the official newspaper for the City of Brookings for the ensuing year. Motion by Murra, seconded by Klavetter approving action to ratify the City of Brookings Police Labor Contract for years 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. All members voted YES; motion carried. Motion by Murra, seconded by Klavetter approving of out-of-state travel for two (2)Fire Department employees to Kansas City, Missouri from August 27-September 1 for Fire Rescue International. All members voted YES; motion carried. Motion by Muna, seconded by Wicks approving the appointment of Jerry Sikkink to the Traffic Safety Committee to complete the term of Eric Erickson through December 31, 2000. (Media member). All members voted YES; motion c�arried. Motion was made by Muna, seconded by Klavetter to approve the appointment of Shawn Michael Peterson as a Campus Police Officer. All members voted YES; motion carried. Motion was made By Artz, seconded by Wicks to authorize the Mayor to sign a Personal Employment Contract with Theodore C. Kryger for sixteen days (16)commencing on August 1, 1999. All members voted YES; motion carried. Motion by Wicks, seconded by Murra to go into Executive Session for personn�l:reasons.
