Brookings City Council
Wednesday, November 17, 2004
The Brookings City Council held a special planning meeting on economic development issues on
Wednesday,November 17, 2004 at 3:30 p.m., at City Hall with the following members present:
Mayor Scott Munsterman, Council Members Tom Bozied, Tim Reed, Julie Whaley, Doris
Roden, and Mike McClemans. Council member Tom Bezdichek was absent. City Manager
Alan Lanning, City Attorney Steve Britzman (arrived at 3:58 p.m.) and City Clerk Shari Thornes
were also present.
Model. Jay Bender, representing the Mayor's Ad Hoc Committee,presented their research
findings and recommendations for an Economic Development and Promotional Model. The plan
consists of: 1) The economic plan carried out by the Regional BEDC and affiliated partners
(Chamber, DBI and City), 2) The promotional plan carried out by the Chamber,DBI, BEDC,
CVB and Events Center Board. The CVB becomes a stand alone organization, bid by contract
every 5 years, on the following basis: space, governance, a public/private financial partnership
and 5 year planning involving all promotional entities in the region.
Further discussion of the topic was scheduled for the Decernber 7�' planning session.
Jay Bender agreed to present the plan to the County Commission.
A motion was made by Roden, seconded by Bozied,to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 4:46 p.m.
