The Brookings Ciry Council convened in a joint session with the Brookings Hospital Board at 5:00
p.m. on Monday,Apri127, 2009, at the Brookings Hospital with the following members present:
Counc�l Membexs Tim Reed,Julie Whaley,Mike Bardey, Ryan Brunner,Mike McClemans and Tom
Bezdichek. City Manager Jeffrey Weldon, City Attomey Steve Britzman and City Clerk Shari
Thornes were also present. Mayor Scott Munstezman was absent.
Kevin Coffey,Acting CEO for Brookings Health Systems,provided past and current hospital
statistics on health care services provided by the Bxookings Health Systems. There was also a
general discussion among all pxesent on how the BHS is addressing future health care needs and
issues which included the recnutment process for emergency toom physicians,a review of 2005
survey data and an update on the CEO sea.rch process.
Steven M.Laxson,President,NEXT, Inc.,provided an overview of the current building pxojects
proposed for at the Brookings Health Systems Campus in 2009. This was followed by a general
discussion regarding the formation of a City/Hospital/Community Task Force to xeview the
Brookings Health System's vision, timeline, city's bonding capacities, and all funding sources and
partnership opportunities.
No action was taken.
