Brookings City Council
March 18, 2014
The Brookings City Council held a study session on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 5:00 p.m., at City
Hail with the following members present: Mayor Tim Reed, Council Members Jael Thorpe,lohn
Kubal, Mike McClemans,Tom Bezdichek, Ope Niemeyer and Keith Corbett. City Attorney Steve
Britzman, City Manager Jeff Weldon and City Clerk Shari Thornes were also present.
Discussion topics included an update from the Brookings Arts Council; a presentation by Dr.
Hesham Mahgoub on asphalt verses concrete; a discussion regarding the City's Master
Comprehensive Plan; a review of the South Campus Neighborhood Developments; and City
Council Ex-Officio Reports.
There was consensus to conduct a general review of the City's existing Master Comprehensive
Plan to include a comparison to other comp plans.
There was consensus to request the City Planning Commission examine Block One of
Sanderson's Addition for inclusion in the South Campus Neighborhood Action Plan.
Topics for future discussion. Mayor Reed said he would like to propose the creation of a
transportation steering committee. Proposed action would occur on March 25tn
Bezdichek requested the Council say the Pledge of Allegiance at future study sessions.
Kubal requested agendas stay on time and on task. He requested future study session agendas
include the original date and motion each item was requested.
Adiourn. A motion was made by Reed, seconded by Thorpe,to adjourn. All present voted yes;
motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 7:37 p.m.
