AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 13 OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF
THE CITY OF BROOKINGS AND PERTAINING TO ELECTRICITY.
BE IT ORDAINED AND ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BROOKINGS, STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA, AS FOLLOWS:
I.
ARTICLE I. ELECTRICAL CODE
Sec. 13-1. Adopted.
There is hereby adopted by the city, for the purpose of prescribing regulations governing
the conditions and hazards arising from the use of electricity for light, heat, power and other
purposes, the most recent edition of that certain code for electrical wiring and apparatus known
as the National Electrical Code of the National Board of Fire Underwriters, except such portions
as are hereinafter deleted, modified or amended,which shall be filed in the office of the city
engineer and the same is hereby adopted and incorporated by reference as fully as if set forth at
length herein.
Sec. 13-2. Conflicts.
In the event of any conflict between the provisions of the code adopted by this article and
applicable provisions of state law, city ordinance or resolutions of the city, state law, city
ordinances and resolutions shall be controlling.
Sec. 13-3. Definition.
Wherever the word "municipality" is used in the National Electrical Code it shall mean
the City of Brookings.
Sec. 13-4. Unauthorized connections.
No person shall make connection from a supply of electricity to any new electrical
installation, any electrical installation which has been ordered disconnected, or any electrical
installation where the service entrance or service equipment has been disconnected, moved or
otherwise altered, except in an emergency to safeguard life or property, until authorized in
accordance with state law.

II.
Any or all ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
