HomeMy WebLinkAboutBOAMinutes_2007_03_15Board of Adjustment Brookings, South Dakota March 15 2007 OFFICIAL MINUTES Chairperson Dick Peterson called the Board of Adjustment to order on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 5:00 PM in the Council Chamber at City Hall. Members present were Matt Kurtenbach, Larry Klingbile, Jay Vanduch, and D. Peterson. David Rusten, alternate Mike Keating, and alternate Jim Pederson were absent. Others present were Chris Bauman, Orville Creighton, City Engineer Jackie Lanning, and Zoning Administrator Dan Hanson. Item #1 – The minutes of the March 1, 2007 meeting were approved. Item #2 – The agenda was approved. Item #3 - Chris Bauman has made a request for a variance on the east 85 feet of Lots 1, 2, and 3, Block 1, Mathews and Scobeys Addition, also known as 508 2nd Street South. The request is to relocate a house 21 feet from the rear lot line. The required setback is 25 feet in the Residence R-3A District. (Klingbile/Vanduch) Motion to approve the variance. All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED. Item #4 - Kyle Prodoehl has made a request for a variance on Lot 4, Block 5, Randi Petersons Addition, also known as 714 11th Avenue. The request is to establish five (5) on-premise parking spaces for a fraternity use with six (6) members. One parking space per occupant is required by ordinance. (Vanduch/Klingbile) Motion to approve. (Kurtenbach/Vanduch) Motion to table. All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED. Item #5 - Brookings School District 5-1 has made a request for a variance on Lot 1, Parkview Second Addition (Brookings High School outdoor track at 5th Street South and Medary Avenue). The request is to erect a six foot (6’) high fence 2.7 feet from the front lot line. The required setback is 30 feet in the residential district. (Klingbile/Vanduch) Motion to approve the variance. All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED. The meeting was adjourned. _______________________ __________________________ Dan Hanson, Secretary Dick Peterson, Chairperson Board of Adjustment Brookings, South Dakota March 15 2007 SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION Chairperson Dick Peterson called the Board of Adjustment to order on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 5:00 PM in the Council Chamber at City Hall. Members present were Matt Kurtenbach, Larry Klingbile, Jay Vanduch, and D. Peterson. David Rusten, alternate Mike Keating, and alternate Jim Pederson were absent. Others present were Chris Bauman, Orville Creighton, City Engineer Jackie Lanning, and Zoning Administrator Dan Hanson. Item #3 – Bauman stated the existing house had a small basement with room only for a water heater and furnace. He would lift the house off and construct a full basement. The new basement would be moved forward to the minimum front yard setback in order to create the largest rear yard that was possible. Item #4 – Hanson informed the Board that the applicant was unable to be present to discuss his proposal and asked that the request be tabled. Item #5 – Orv Creighton, Superintendent of Schools, stated that Brookings High School needed more space for a high school track expansion project. He added that the fence would be moved closer to the right-of-way line the same distance that the track would be widened. D. Peterson asked if the fence would be new. Creighton replied yes. Klingbile asked what style would be used. Creighton responded that it would be chain link with tubing on top.
