suggested adding the following questions to the patron survey: what factors limit patrons’ abilities to utilize library programs,
what ideas do patrons offer for expanding library utilization, and what gaps are noticeable within the library’s services. Kathy
Miller suggested sending the stakeholder survey to several interested parties for review. Ashia Gustafson reviewed potential

6. Other Items & Reports
6.1 Financial Report
Ashia Gustafson presented the review of the 2024 budget through September to the Library Board members.
6.2 Librarian’s Report
Storytime and music maker classes have returned and are well attended. Over 50 people attended the first puppet show of the
fall. This month’s STEAM class is geared toward science and engineering with all of the projects involving gravity. The library
will be participating in the Trunk or Treat event at the end of October. The pet parade showcased over 20 pets and 145
attendees. 49 people attended the civil discourse talk. The VisABILITY Disability Etiquette and ADA Basics training saw low
attendance but was informative and the video from the event is on the Library’s YouTube page. The dividing wall in the Cooper
Room has been removed and the new mechanical wall should be installed in November. The Library’s parking lot project was
scaled back from complete renovation to chip seal only, and as a result there was enough savings in the budget to purchase
new window blinds and new tables and chairs for the Library. The school district has denied the Library’s request to begin a
graphic novel club at the high school and also cancelled the existing club in the middle school that ran for the last two years.
Staff is working on setting up the graphic novel club at the Library for interested students, but transportation is proving to be an
issue.
7. Comment on items not on the agenda
Mark Binkley stated that he will attempt to speak with the Brookings School Board President about the graphic novel club issue
and report back at the next board meeting.
8. Next Meeting: Thursday, November 21 at 12:00 PM in the Historical Room of the Brookings Public Library.
9. Adjournment
The Library Board meeting adjourned at 12:38pm.
Respectfully submitted,
