HomeMy WebLinkAboutLBMinutes_2023_01_19BROOKINGS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES January 19, 2023 MEETING MINUTES The Board of Trustees of the Brookings Public Library met on Thursday, January 19 at 12:00 pm in the Historical Room at the Brookings Public Library. MEMBERS PRESENT: Kathy Miller, Linda Richter, Denise Hall, Brittany Shaw OTHERS PRESENT: Ashia Gustafson, Shane Andreasen, Paul Briseno 1. Call to Order Kathy Miller called the meeting to order. 2. Approval of Agenda Kathy Miller approved the meeting agenda with no changes added. 3. Election of Officers Motion to elect Brittany Shaw to Library Board Chair and Denise Hall to Library Board Vice Chair. Motion carried. 4. Executive Session 5. Approval of Minutes Kathy Miller noted that the adjournment statement from the December minutes needs correction. Brittany Shaw approved the minutes with the noted adjournment statement correction. 6. Old Business 6.1 Library Printing The Friends of the Library had a meeting on January 11, 2023 and approved transferring the printing and copying maintenance and funds tracking to the Library Board. The funds will be deposited into the fines account going forward. 7. New Business 7.1 Approval of Bills Denise Hall moved to approve the December 2022 bills. Kathy Miller seconded. Motion carried. 7.2 Brookings Library Board of Trustees By-Laws Committee reviewed the by-laws. 8. Other Items & Reports 8.1 Financial Report Ashia Gustafson presented the review of the 2022 budgets through December to the Library Board members. Charges made in December will continue to process through January which will change the final December figures. 8.2 Librarian’s Report Ashia Gustafson presented the Librarian’s Report to the Board. During the height of the pandemic, the library remained creative in its attempts to maintain public programming and as a result of the public outreach, the attendance figures for programs have risen above pre-pandemic levels. The teen graphic book club has been well received by attendees. The teen escape challenge and children’s lockbox challenge were well attended. Maker lab programs are popular with patrons. The library was again granted Exemplary Status of Accreditation from the South Dakota State Library. The Library Board members will need to collectively achieve 45 hours of continuing education credits within the next three years to maintain Exemplary Status of Accreditation. Programs at the library and WebJunction webinars are sometimes eligible for continuing education credits and after attending a program or webinar, a Library Board member should email Ashia Gustafson to receive credit. A new chiller was ordered in 2022 and should arrive in 2023 for installation. New windows will be installed in 2023 including an emergency exit window. A new door will be added to the children’s section for ease of access as well as an additional emergency exit. 9. Next Meeting: Thursday, February 17 at 12:00 PM in the Historical Room 10.
