HomeMy WebLinkAboutLBMinutes_2022_10_13BROOKINGS PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES October 13, 2022 MEETING MINUTES The Board of Trustees of the Brookings Public Library met on Thursday October 13 at 12:00 pm in the Historical Room at the Brookings Public Library. MEMBERS PRESENT: Kathy Miller, Stephanie Carroll, Linda Richter, Doug O’Neill OTHERS PRESENT: Ashia Gustafson, Shane Andreasen 1. Call to Order Kathy Miller called the meeting to order. 2. Approval of Agenda Kathy Miller approved the meeting agenda with no changes added. 3. Approval of Minutes Kathy Miller approved the Library Board meeting minutes from September 15, 2022 with no changes or corrections added. 4. Old Business Doug O’Neill discussed SDLA and the improvements made this year. Stephanie Carroll discussed how SDLA felt more inclusive and noted that the keynote speaker was superb. The dessert reception at the Children’s Museum was another highlight. 5. New Business 5.1 Approval of Bills: Shane Andreasen, Office Manager, introduced himself. He shared his work history. The Library Board members discussed the September 2022 bills, budgets and expenditures. Doug O’Neill asked about the library offering State Park passes to loan out to patrons. Ashia stated the topic is currently under review. Kathy Miller moved to approve the September 2022 bills. Doug O’Neill seconded. Motion carried. 5.2 Historical Collection Policy Ashia Gustafson provided the Historical Collection Policy to the Library Board members. After discussing and reviewing the Historical Collection Policy, the Library Board members have no changes to be made. 6. Other Items & Reports 6.1 Financial Report Ashia Gustafson presented the review of the 2022 budgets through September to the Library Board members. 6.2 Librarian’s Report Ashia Gustafson presented the Librarian’s Report to the Board. Tail Waggin’ Tutor has a new dog. The Anime Club is doing well but the other teen programs are struggling with the change in Young Adult Services Coordinators. Jenny Kluck, the Young Adult Services Coordinator, will visit schools this fall to connect and promote new teen programs beginning in January 2023. The Scooby Doo escape rooms were a success with 113 people attending. Native American Heritage month programming begins in November. New Wi-Fi connection points were installed on September 30. 7. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda Stephanie Carroll asked if there was further discussion about expanding library operation hours. Ashia explained that patrons have rarely raised the issue and the SenSource door counting data suggests that there is not enough demand in the evenings to expand hours. Stephanie Carroll suggested holding the Brookings Police Department ALICE training session again. 8. Next Meeting: Thursday, November 17 at 12:00 PM in the Historical Room 9.
