BOARD OF TRUSTEES
March 17, 2022
MEETING MINUTES
The Board of Trustees of the Brookings Public Library met on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 12:00 pm in the Historical Room at
the Brookings Public Library.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Kathy Miller (Zoom), Doug O’Neill (Zoom), Stephanie Carroll, Denise Hall
OTHERS PRESENT: Ashia Gustafson, Mikaela Neubauer, Jen Anderson
1. Call to Order
Kathy Miller called the meeting to order.
2. Approval of Agenda
Kathy Miller called for approval of the meeting agenda. Stephanie Carroll moved to approve the meeting agenda with the
addition to Old Business 4.2 Volunteers Program Policy. Denise Hall seconded. Motion carried.
3. Approval of Minutes
Kathy Miller called for approval of the minutes from the February 17, 2022 meeting. Denise Hall moved to approve the meeting
minutes. Stephanie Carroll seconded. Motion carried.
4. Old Business
4.1 Board Continuing Education Hours
Ashia Gustafson presented the Library Board members with the current record of continuing education hours (44 out of 45).
Ashia Gustafson would request for the Library Board members to attend SDLA conference which is held in Brookings, SD this
year, even if the continuing education hours have been completed.
4.2 Volunteers Program Policy
Ashia Gustafson presented the Volunteers Program Policy to the Library Board members. The Library Board members
discussed updates to the policy. Denise Hall moved to approve the Volunteers Program Policy. Stephanie Carroll seconded.
Motion carried.
5. New Business
5.1 Meet the Staff: Mikaela Neubauer- Community Services Coordinator
Mikaela Neubauer introduced herself to the Library Board members. Mikaela has been the Community Services Coordinator for
three years. As the Community Services Coordinator, she coordinates the Library’s adult programs, adult events, community
outreach, and book clubs. Mikaela Neubauer went into detail about the Black History Month program and events with the
American Library Association (ALA) Grant she received. She is hoping to continue with diversity programs/events as year-round
programs for the Brookings community. The Library Board members thanked Mikaela Neubauer for her hard work in these
events.
5.2 Approval of Bills
The Library Board members discussed the February 2022 bills, budgets and expenditures. Denise Hall moved to approve the
February 2022 bills. Doug O’Neill seconded. Motion carried.
5.3 Annual State Librarians Report
Ashia Gustafson presented the Annual State Librarians Report to the Library Board members to review. The Library Board
members discussed the Annual State Librarians Report. Doug O’Neill moved to approve the Annual State Librarians Report.
Stephanie Carroll seconded. Motion carried.
5.4 Historical Collection Policy
Ashia Gustafson provided the Historical Collection Policy to the Library Board members. After reviewing the Historical Collection
Policy, the Library Board members have no changes to be made.
6. Other Items & Reports
6.1 Financial Report
Ashia Gustafson presented the review of the 2022 Budget through February to the Library Board members. Budget spending is
going well and is on track.
6.2 Librarian’s Report
Ashia Gustafson presented the monthly report to the Library Board members. Ashia Gustafson is happy to announce due to the
increase in funding from Brookings County, the Library will have a programming expense line to assist with programs/events.
Friends of the Brookings Public Library book sale is next week on March 23-27.

9. Adjournment
Stephanie Carroll moved to adjourn the meeting. Doug O’Neill seconded. The meeting adjourned at 1:03 pm.
