BOARD OF TRUSTEES
February 17, 2022
MEETING MINUTES
The Board of Trustees of the Brookings Public Library met on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at 12:00 pm in the Historical Room
at the Brookings Public Library.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Kathy Miller, Doug O’Neill (phone), Denise Hall,
OTHERS PRESENT: Ashia Gustafson, Katie Burggraff, Jen Anderson
1. Call to Order
Kathy Miller called the meeting to order.
2. Approval of Agenda
Kathy Miller called for approval of the meeting agenda. Denise Hall moved to approve the meeting agenda. Doug O’Neill
seconded. Motion carried.
3. Approval of Minutes
Kathy Miller called for approval of the minutes from the January 20, 2021 meeting. Denise Hall moved to approve the meeting
minutes. Doug O’Neill seconded. Motion carried.
4. Old Business
4.1 Board Continuing Education Hours
Ashia Gustafson presented the Library Board members with the current record of continuing education hours. Only 30 hours out
of 45 hours can be used from webinars.
4.2 Daktronics Sign
Ashia Gustafson provided information from the sales representative at Daktronics to the Library Board members. The Library
Board members discussed the cost and location of the sign. Ashia Gustafson feels the Library can update other items in the
Library before spending funds on a sign for the building. Doug O’Neill moved to table the conversation on a Daktronics sign for a
later date. Denise seconded. Motion carried.
5. New Business
5.1 Meet Our Staff: Katie Burggraff – Young Adult Services Coordinator
Katie Burggraff introduced herself to the Library Board members. She went into detail about her programs she offers for the
teens as well as the attendance for these programs. Starting this new position, just a week before the pandemic hit, has been a
little difficult. Getting teens involved with online programs was rough in the beginning but she feels programs are going to start
picking up on attendance with more in-person programs. Katie Burggraff is also working with the Middle School teachers and
the librarian on having teen book club at the school.
5.2 Approval of Bills
The Library Board members discussed the February 2022 bills, budgets and expenditures. Denise Hall moved to approve the
February 2022 bills. Doug O’Neill seconded. Motion carried.
5.3 Volunteers Program Policy
Ashia Gustafson provided the Library Board members with the Volunteers Program Policy. The Library currently has one
volunteer due to the pandemic. Alice Hayes is working on getting volunteers back in the Library soon. Kathy Miller moved to
table the Volunteer Program Policy until the next Library Board meeting. Denise Hall seconded. Motion carried.
6. Other Items & Reports
6.1 Financial Report
Ashia Gustafson presented the review of the 2022 Budget through February to the Library Board members.
6.2 Librarian’s Report
Ashia Gustafson presented the monthly report to the Library Board members. Friends of the Library Book Sale is on March 23
through March 27. Safe N Secure started installing cameras throughout the Library.

9. Adjournment
Denise Hall moved to adjourn the meeting. Doug O’Neill seconded. The meeting adjourned at 12:45 pm.
