The sole purpose of this meeting was to evaluate and recommend candidates for the Brookings Rights Commission. Only BHRC members participated. It was determined that the 3 applicants for the student position are no longer students at SDSU which makes these applicants ineligible. After classes start on August 23, a PR seeking nominations will be distributed to various entities on campus including The Collegian, diversity office, multi-cultural center, multi-cultural affairs office, and Student Association. The county representative slot on BHRC will be filled by the County Commission at their July 20 meeting. We have 3 open slots to fill – Marilyn Hildreth, Zahra Najl and Jason Meusburger. We received 15 applications. Each applicant was assigned a letter designation. Each applicant was reviewed and their qualifications were discussed. A rubric spreadsheet was created. One point was assigned if the applicant was a resident of Brookings County; another point for being a member of a minority group; another point if the HRC was their first choice for serving on Brookings boards and committees. Each BHRC member selected their top 5 applicants. The members rankings were entered into the spreadsheet. Applicants F & G came out on the top. Applicant L was in third place. Applicants J & K were close behind and will be considered as 1st & 2nd runner-ups. Our selections will be forwarded to the mayor to be approved at the July 27 City Council meeting. After the selections have been approved, city staff will send a letter to the remaining applicants thanking them for applying and letting them know their application will be keep on file for a year. Next meeting Thursday, July 29 at noon Adjourn: Meeting adjourned at 4:25 pm. Submitted by Lawrence Novotny, recorder
