Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
Thursday, February 22nd, 2024 @ 12pm
Dacotah Bank Center
Present: Nick Schmeichel, Elena McKeown, Kyleigh Cramer, Jeff Holm, Bill Retterath, Laura Schoen
Carbonneau, Mike Logan, Dacotah Bank Center General Manager; Ashley Biggar, Dacotah Bank Center
Director of Marketing, Lisa Robinson Dacotah Bank Center Director of Finance & Kristin Zimmerman, City
of Brookings Park & Recreation Director.
Agenda Discussions:
➢ Jeff called the meeting to order.
➢ December minutes were approved.
➢ Mike gave a team update to share new items for 2024. As the facility is fully staffed for full-time
roles, the focus is on part-time hiring, specifically in operations.
➢ Mike presented and the board discussed a SWOT analysis of the facility. Highlights include ESDS
pool tournament growth, Tri-Company Dart return in 2025, and developing a strong relationship with
BHS Athletics. Mike discussed weak December bookings with multiple events cancelling late into
the year. This will be a focus point in 2024. Mike discussed opportunities for cattle show bookings,
specifically a protentional NAJRAE return in 25 or 26, self-promoted events, and a Visit Brookings
sales blitz. Threats continue with high expenses v revenues, low market discretionary income, market
competition, and weather.
➢ Mike gave an update on Dacotah Bank Center capital projects. The roof project is completed. Mike
gave a 2024 project update on bathrooms, safety lines in the rigging grid, lighting/ AV equipment,
and concrete work.
➢ Mike presented the end of year financials and provided a comprehensive update on conversations
being had with city staff as well as city council.
➢ Mike presented an update on partnerships. He discussed sales increases between contract start and
end of year two. an opportunity to sell holding barn sponsorships in 2024.
➢ Next meeting is scheduled for April 25th at 12:00pm.
➢ Jeff adjourned the meeting.
