Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
Thursday, February 16th, 2022 @ 1pm
Swiftel Center
Present: Elena McKeown, Kyleigh Cramer, Jeff Holm, Laura Schoen Carbonneau Visit Brookings, Jennifer
Johnson, Mike Logan, Swiftel Center General Manager; Ashley Biggar, Swiftel Center Director of
Marketing
Agenda Discussions:
➢ Jeff called the meeting to order.
➢ December minutes were approved.
➢ Introductions were made for new advisory board members.
➢ Mike gave an update on hiring. Emma Whitlock’s last day is February 23rd. She is moving to Chicago
to become an event manager at McCormick Place. Cierra Steffensen has accepted our offer to
become our new Event Manager. She comes to us from the Boys and Girls Club where she was their
Director of Special Events and Marketing. Erick Rangel has resigned from his position as CFO of the
City of Brookings. His last day was February 17th. Deputy City Manager Jake Meshke will be taking
over as the Swiftel Center contract administrator until his position is hired.
➢ Mike presented and the board discussed a SWOT analysis of the facility. Highlights include strong
Q1 attendance numbers, temporary event management plan until new Event Manager is trained,
opportunity to increase rental and F&B fees, and discussion of market concert holds.
➢ Mike gave an update on Swiftel Center capital projects. The arena audio project is completed and
working well. The HVAC project is delayed due to supply chain issues and is currently tentatively
scheduled for a May installment. Conversations continue with Oracle and Oak View Group on a new
F&B POS system.
➢ Mike presented the end of year financials.
➢ Mike presented an update on partnerships.
➢ Next meeting is scheduled for April 20th at 12:00pm.
➢ Jeff adjourned the meeting.
