Public Arts Commission
MINUTES
Wed. Feb. 26, 2025
The Public Arts Commission held a mee�ng on Feb. 26 at 12:10 pm at the Brookings City & County
Government Center, Room 241, with the following Commission
Members present: Linda Purrington, Lisbeth Solum, Meredith Weiland, Bety Beer, Paula Carson City
Staff: Stacy Claussen, Recrea�on Manager
Members absent: Abigail Ramsbotom, Jamison Lamp, Kate Treiber
City Staff absent: Kris�n Zimmerman, Josh Bauman

Approval of the Agenda

a. Discussion of annual report – reviewed by Stacy Clausen
b. Approval by commitee to turn in annual report
• New Business
A. Discussion of remaining projects for 2025
No informa�on from the school; Linda will talk to them with a deadline of July 1. Project will
be tabled un�l next year without their funds.
Linda proposed sub-commitees to research the projects voted on.
B. Discussion and vote on of short and long term projects
Short-term project: new skate park. Input mee�ng scheduled for Mar. 4th at the Brookings
H.S. Commons area from 5-7. Commitee members will atend for input.
Bety will research the possibility of including the 3rd floor of city hall as a possible addi�on.
A suggested $1000.00 and ideas for commission ar�st forthcoming. Sugges�on by Beer:
Diana Behl as ar�st
Downtown mural project: the commission approved offering $1000.00. with commission
name included on the project. The concept has already been planned by Visit Brookings
and the Brookings Chamber of Commerce. Linda suggested the importance of
collabora�on among the different en��es.
Long-term project: Dakota Nature Park
Possible loca�ons suggested: area replacing Tangle Town, green area in front of the
building, or green area by parking lot. Stacy will meet with sub-commitee and show
them area op�ons.
C. Commitees established: members present volunteered for each project.
Importance was stressed that all sub-commitee members par�cipate as the
commitees are small.
Dakota Nature Park sub-commitee: Lisbeth Solum, Linda Purrington,
Meredith Weiland.
Skate Park sub-commitee: Abigail Ramsbotom, Bety Beer, Paula Carson
Liaison with Downtown Mural: Meredith Weiland
D. Elec�on of New President: tabled un�l next mee�ng
E. IMPORTANT CALENDAR ITEMS:
Mar. 4 th, 5-7pm: H.S. Commons area – public skatepark input; Skatepark sub-
commitee members and Linda will atend.
Mar. 5 th 2:30 pm: Dakota Nature Park; Nature Park sub-commitee with Stacy
Clausen.
Next full mee�ng: Public Arts Commission April 1st, 12pm. Please no�fy the
president if unable to atend. Ac�ons cannot occur without a quorum.
