Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
Thursday, August 22nd, 2024 @ 12pm
Dacotah Bank Center
Present: Kyleigh Cramer, Laura Schoen Carbonneau, Bill Retterath, Elena McKeown, Jeff Holm, Mike
Logan, Dacotah Bank Center General Manager, Ashley Biggar Dacotah Bank Center AGM/Director of
Marketing & Kristin Zimmerman, City of Brookings Park & Recreation Director.
Agenda Discussions:
➢ Jeff called the meeting to order.
➢ June minutes were approved.
➢ Mike gave an update on the open Operations Supervisor and open General Manager positions. Seach
for the Operations Supervisor will likely result in hiring a part-time operations staff member that is
looking for full time work after graduation. A decision on the General Manager position will be made
as soon as possible. Mike will communicate to the board when this happens.
➢ Mike presented and the board discussed a SWOT analysis of the facility. Highlights include a strong
return on large weddings in the arena, new partnerships with Kool Beans and Downtown Brookings,
as well as new Q1 bookings. Mike discussed weak fall/winter. This will continue to be the focus for
the rest of the year. Mike discussed opportunities for 2024 & 2025 event booking and gave an update
on the Crown Castle partnerships. Threats continue with high expenses v revenues. Staff are looking
to raise pay rates as well as rental and operational costs back to clients to help with staffing issues and
revenue shortfalls.
➢ Mike gave an update on Dacotah Bank Center capital projects. Mike gave a 2024 project update on
bathrooms, concrete work outside and in the arena, roof issues, F&B projects, and updates to the
security system.
➢ Mike presented June YTD financials. He also provided a financial review update that was provided to
city leadership and city council.
➢ Next meeting is scheduled for October 24th at 12:00pm.
➢ Jeff adjourned the meeting.
