HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRMinutes_2024_09_09Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Notes Monday, September 9th, 2024 5:30 PM 1.Call to Order Chair Erika Saunders called the meeting to order at 5:30. Park Board members present: Erika Saunders, Steve Berseth, Doug Smith, Nathaniel Condelli, Stacy Zerfas and Brenda Andersen. Board Members absent: Jay Larsen. City Staff present: Park, Recreation and Forestry Director Kristin Zimmerman, Park, Recreation and Forestry Asst. Director Josh Bauman and Park, Recreation and Forestry Office Manager Ashley Marler. 2.Approval of Agenda Request to change the date on the Notice of Public Quorum. Steve Berseth motions to approve the September 9th 2024 agenda, Doug Smith 2nds motion; Motion is carried. 3. Approval of Minutes Nathanial Condelli would like it updated that he was not in attendance during the August 2024 meeting. Brenda Andersen motions to approve the August 2024 minutes, Stacy Zerfas 2nds; Motion is carried. 4.Call to the Public There were no members of the public in attendance of the Park and Recreation Meeting. 5.Discussion and Possible Action: Mayor’s Awards Park Board members discussed several different options for single person and group nominations for the Mayor Awards. There was also the mention that all of the nominees mentioned didn’t have to be chosen this year, but could be on the list for future nominations. Kristin Zimmerman suggested having three different award categories. These categories would be Champion, Impact and Public Lands. She recommends that the Champion Award recognize outstanding contributions and initiative’s that enhance community well-being through parks and recreation. The Impact Award honors individuals or groups that have shown exceptional leadership and advocacy in advancing the mission of parks and recreation. The public lands preservation award recognizes exceptional efforts in the stewardship and conservation of public lands. Kristin wrote the options as: The Champion Award: Bill Flynn-Optimist Club/kite festival/Tennis Programs Dan and RaeJean Gee- Edgebrook Flowers The Impact Award: Deb Wolforth=Pickleball Gary Moen- Moen Management/Edgebrook Golf Course The Public Lands Preservation Award: Pheasants Forever- Pollinator areas through Brookings. Doug Smith motions to approve the three categories as well as the nominations. Nathaniel Conndelli 2nds; Motion is carried 6.Adjournment Erica Saunders motions to adjourn meeting. Brenda Andersen 2nds: motion is carried.
