1. Call To Order
• Linda Purrington calls to order. Betty Beer, Kate Trieber, Abigail Ramsbottom, and
Paula Carson are present. Stacy Claussen, Parks & Recs representative, present.
2. Approval of Agenda
• Betty Beer calls for approval. Kate Trieber seconds.
3. Approval of Minutes
• Kate Trieber calls for approval. Better Beer seconds.
4. Discussion on Juilia's Resignation
• Linda Purrington is willing to serve as President temporarily, but prefers to serve
as a co-president and seeking volunteers.
5. Review Applications
• Two applicants were approved to the committee: Solum & Ritter. The committee
chooses to table other applicants for a larger discussion with more of the
committee members present.

6. Hillcrest Playground
• Total cost: $34,000.
• Seating needed. Leaning toward teardrop-shaped tables, which are more
accessible.
• Things to consider: What sets this project apart from other Parks & Rec
initiatives? How does this fit into public art?
• Potential approaches: Outdoor maker space. Provide an area for
children to install their art in public.
• Potential approaches: Interactive, visual & colorful components.
Equipment that encourages children to engage in the natural world.
• Potential approaches: Teacher training for utilizing the outdoor space
for public art projects with learners. Or opening day art making led by
community orgs such as Brookings Arts Council.
• Future needs: To vote on the final budget and products for the outdoor space.
7. Pickleball Courts options
• Abigail Ramsbottom to post the call on CAFE. Deadline August 9, 2024.
• Need to develop a 5-person committee:
• 1 Pickleball representative
• 1 Parks & Rec representative
• 1 artist (Erik Ritter will be asked)
• 1 South Dakota Art Museum representative (Carolyne Hart will be
asked)
• 1 Brookings Arts Council representative (Eileen Binkley will be asked)
• Committee will review entries on the week of August 12th

9. Adjournment
• Linda Purrington calls to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Betty Beer.

Ramsbottom, Jamison Lamp, VACANT, VACANT, and VACANT. City Staff: Kristin Zimmerman, Parks,
Recreation & Forestry Director, Josh Bauman, Assistant Parks, Recreation & Forestry Director, and Stacy
Claussen, Recreation Manager.
