HomeMy WebLinkAboutAirMinutes_2023_08_17Brookings Regional Airport Board Brookings, SD 57006 August 17, 2023 The Brookings Airport Board was called to order by Brady Klocker on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 3:30 PM in Conference Room #241, Second Floor. Members present were Brian Van Liere, Lynn Riedesel, Isaac Wilde and Klocker. Also present were Airport Manager Lucas Dahl, City Engineer Charlie Richter, Paul Hanusa and Randy Hansen from FBO, Brad Schmidt, and Dan Crocksted. Item #1 - Roll Call Item #2 - (Riedesel/Wilde) Motion to approve the agenda. All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED. Item #3 - (VanLiere/Riedesel) Motion to approve the June 15, 2023 minutes. All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED. Item #4 - Pavement Maintenance Project Update - Dahl reported that this project is about 90% complete. The seal coat was applied in early July. Painting was complete this weekend. The Parallel Taxiway Design is currently in process for work to be complete in 2024. Item #5 - Airport Manager's Report - Dahl stated that the mowing is keeping them busy due to recent rains. New windsocks have been hung. Brookings Municipal Utilities has a manhole project going on with 9 manholes located within the airport. One of the manholes is located near a runway so the runway will need to be closed down, Dahl stated that he would only allow the runway to be closed for a half of a day. There are a couple of manholes located in the safety area that Dahl isn't as concerned about but he will issue a NOTAM. There will also be airport staff with the BMU staff during the time they are working in the safety area. There has been some interest in building hangars, locations haven't been determined yet. The distance remaining marker is still on order. The PAPI's and REIL's have recently been calibrated. There will be a CIP meeting with Helm's and FAA on August 30th. McLaughlin has resigned from the Airport Board so there is currently a vacancy on the board. One day in July there were 400+ operations at the airport. Item #6 - SDSU Report - School at SDSU will be starting again next week. Flying will increase again now with classes starting. Item #7 - FBO Report - Hanusa explained that he had someone interested in some hangar space, the interested party operates a parachuting business. Hansen reported that Pheasants Fury will remain as the FBO for another 5 years. Item #8 - Other Items & Reports - Klocker explained that McLaughlin has resigned from her position and the vacancy has been advertised. Item #9 - Next Scheduled Meeting - September 21, 2023.
