HomeMy WebLinkAboutBHPCMinutes 2023_01_12 Brookings Historic Preservation Commission January 12, 2023 Minutes A meeting of the Brookings Historic Preservation Commission was held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 in the Brookings City & County Government Center. Members present: Janet Merriman, Kyle Nelson, Tom Thaden, Nathaniel Condelli, Samuel Krueger and Chair Matt Weiss. Also present was City Planner Ryan Miller. Weiss called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. A motion was made by Merriman and seconded by Thaden to approve the agenda. All present voted aye. A motion was made by Merriman and seconded by Krueger to approve the December 8, 2022 minutes. All present voted aye. 11.1 Review Updates. Open:  616 8th Avenue – The applicant is seeking to replace three second story windows.  715 6th Street – The applicant is seeking to replace three second story windows.  902 9th Street – Staff is waiting for more details on the proposed materials for the foundation siding.  510 Main Avenue – SHPO has requested a Case Study to be reviewed by BHPC.  Pioneer Park Bandshell – The City will be working on providing additional information needed for the Case Study. Closed:  719 8th Avenue – SHPO has reviewed and approved a window replacement. Other Items & Reports. a. 2021 – 2022 Quarterly and Annual Reports: Miller mentioned that the 2022 Annual CLG Report and the next Quarterly Report are both due at the end of January. Miller will have drafts ready for review shortly. Miller mentioned that the City Annual Report will be due in February. Weiss reviewed the process for presenting the annual report to the City Council. Committee members discussed various success, challenges and goals to be included into the City’s Annual Report and City Council presentation. b. 2022 – 2023 CLG Grant Weiss mentioned that in order to identify potential funding requests, the year two work plan needs to be updated. Stuaff and Merriman have volunteered to review the year two work plan. Weiss asked if anyone would be interested. Nelson offered to help if needed. Weiss suggested a one-hour work session for subcommittees in advance of the February meeting. c. Special Projects Updates: i. SDSU Tour Guides Brochure Thaden mentioned that graphics are done and maps are being worked on. Thaden hopes to have quotes for various quantities by the February meeting. Weiss mentioned that in order to be discussed as a part of the year two work plan, more information should be made available prior to the February meeting. Weiss mentioned that he may be able to print the proof and review with Thaden, Gritzner and Carson. Thaden mentioned that he has prepared a power point for presenting to interested groups. Weiss asked if there is a history awareness month for SDSU. Thaden stated that Founders Day used to be celebrated in February. ii. University Residential Historic District Plaques No update. iii. Flyers Distribution No update. iv. Work Plan Review Weiss, Stauff and Nelson will meet to discuss. d. Public Education Subcommittee Updates: i. BHPC Intern There was no meeting with the intern in December due to weather. ii. Facebook Efforts No update. e. City Connections Subcommittee Updates: i. Survey of Potential Resources from SDSU Geography Department No update. f. NAPC Webinar Series Miller mentioned an upcoming free webinar series offered by NAPC. Miller will email registration information for those interested. Next Scheduled Meeting  The next meeting will be February 9, 2023.
