Meeting Minutes
Brookings Public Arts Commission
Thursday, October 6, 2022 12:00 PM City/County Building
1. Call to Order and Verbal Roll Call Members present: Paula Carson, Julia Eberhart, Jean Jostad,
Jamison Lamp, Linda Purrington, Kate Treiber, Taylor McKeown. Others present: Dusty Rodiek, Stacy
Claussen
2. Approval of Agenda Motion by Jean Jostad to approve agenda as distributed. Seconded by Jamison
Lamp. Approved unanimously.
3. Approval of Minutes Motion by Linda Purrington to approve 7/21/2022 minutes as submitted.
Seconded by Jean Jostad. Approved unanimously.
4. New Business:
A. Judge Wilmot Brookings Bronze Sculpture
• Darwin Wolf presented on the possible installation of a statue representing Judge
Wilmot Brookings, for installation on city grounds.
• The city was named for Brookings, who was an early politician, federal judge, and
owner of the Sioux Falls Leader.
• Wolf proposed a bronze sculpture sized at life scale or 1.5 x life scale, priced at
$10,000/vertical foot.
• The casting would be done by Bronze Age Art Casting in Sioux Falls.
• The timeline would be about one year.
• Following the presentation, the Commission discussed the project at length. It was
decided that at this time the Commission is not interested in supporting this kind of
project as its next permanent installation. Other opportunities might arise for
projects that are more interactive for citizens and visitors, like Play Ball!
5. Correspondence/Announcements/Calendar
A. Next Meeting: TBD, January 2023 at Noon
6. Adjournment Motion by Paula Carson to adjourn. Linda Purrington seconded. Meeting adjourned
at 1:00 p.m.
