The Brookings Airport Board was called to order by Brian VanLiere on Thursday,
October 20, 2022 at 3:30 PM in Conference Room #241, Second Floor. Members
present were Judy McLaughlin, Lynn Riedesel, Ory Smidt and VanLiere. Absent
was Brady Klocker. Also present were Acting Airport Manager Lucas Dahl, City
Engineer Charlie Richter, Chris Funk and Devon Bastmeyer from SDSU and Jesse
Enstad with Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Rltem #1 - Roll Call
Item #2 - (McLaughlin/Riedesel) Motion to approve the agenda. All present
voted aye. MOTION CARRIED.
Item #3 - (Riedesel/Smidt) Motion to approve the September 15, 2022 minutes.
All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED.
Item #4 - Airport Manager's Report - Dahl reported that the terminal roof and
ARFF roof repairs have been complete. Staff has been finishing up on mowing
and preparing winter equipment.
Dahl is waiting to receive a quote for some cameras.
Noise complaints have been received via a program on the City website. But
the addresses and phone numbers are not legitimate information. Other than
these couple of online complaints, there haven't been any other complaints
received. SDSU has shifted to 30 which could be helping with this situation.
Riedesel inquired about NOTAM's that have been published. One of them is the
weather station and Dahl reported that the FAA is aware of this and they
weren't going to be able to order parts until after October 1 St.
There will be an Open House and Dedication for the new SDSU Hangar on
October 27th.
Item #5 - Review of Capital Improvement Plan - Richter explained the discussion
that was had with Helm's and the FAA regarding the Capital Improvement Plan.
Grounds maintenance and Snow Removal Equipment were both high priority.
Based on the FAA's request Helm's accelerated pavement maintenance from
2025 to 2023 and the design of the parallel taxiway will be in 2023 with the
construction of the parallel taxiway being 2024. 2025 will be the design of the
SRE building and construction will be 2026.
Item #6 - SDSU Report - Bastmeyer reported that the students have been flying
a lot of hours. They have a new Cesna being delivered around mid -November.
