The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. 2.Approval of agenda A motion to approve the agenda was made by Izzy, seconded by Rachel. Officer Updates: a.Chair ●Matt: Updated on White Cane Awareness, that permit was approved quickly and is all set. ●Matt: Submitted final proclamation to city for NDEAM. b.Vice Chair ●No updates at this time. c.Recorder ●No updates at this time. d.Publicity coordinator ●No updates at this time. e.City ADA coordinator ●Susan: Reported that Ali and Izzy have expiring terms, but both would like to continue on and that request has been submitted to the mayor for approval. ●Susan: Mentioned that Matt submitted feedback on city policies and that has been shared with city manager Paul. f.County ADA coordinator ●No updates at this time. g.SDSU Liaison ●Lynda: Met with Nancy Hartenhoff-Crooks to discuss BDAC. ●Lynda: Shared that Mark will be presenting on campus during NDEAM. ●Lynda: Announced that Sarah Lesnar is the new ADA coordinator on campus. h.Human Rights Commission Liaison ●Charlie: Reminded about free Common Read events that have already started. ●Charlie: Announced brand new working group under the HRC for the Indigenous community, which is planning an upcoming event. ●Charlie: Shared that HRC is still accepting nominations for the Human Rights Award. 6. Officer Elections A motion to open the floor for elections was made by Izzy, seconded by Mark. Events/Public Promotions: a.September 24 – “Kids Like You” event at The Creative Space Studio on Main b.October 11th – NDEAM Mayoral Proclamation (Date TBD) ●Susan: Confirmed Tuesday, October 11 city council meeting at 6:00 p.m. ●Mark: Will speak at the city council meeting. ●Susan: Requested that anyone who can attend let her know in advance. ●Mark: Mentioned "Becoming Your Best Self" NDEAM event at the Children's Museum on October 5 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. c.October 15th – White Cane Awareness Day ●Matt: Applied for a parade permit that was approved by the city. ●Izzy: Summarized that format is similar to last year, crossing the intersection at 6th St/22nd Ave. ●Rachel: Can attend the event. ●Aysia: Can attend the event. ●Ramona: Asked about making new posters. d.December 1st – Mayor ’s Awards 2022 – Selections ●ABLE ○Matt:Kaleb Hight of United Living Community was nominated by Douglas Lee of United Living Community. ○Mark: Nominated the Avera clinic for a superior patient experience for disabled persons. ○Aysia: Nominated BCYMP for their disability mentoring program efforts. A motion to nominate BCYMP for the ABLE award was made by Aysia, seconded by Ramona. Other Items: a.BATA coin usage ●Rachel: Has already disbursed about 36 tokens, and they have been appreciated by community members. ●Rachel: Mentioned that door prizes are being solicited for the Brookings Area Coalition of Aging (ACA)health fair on October 11.
