1. The meeting was called to order at 12:04 p.m.
2. Approval of Agenda

3. Approval of minutes
Aysia needs to edit minutes from the 11/18/21 meeting to exclude Jon from the roll.
A motion to acknowledge the amended minutes was made by Jenny, seconded by Izzy. The motion
carried by the following votes:

4. Budget
●About $3500 is available to us.
●In 2021, money was spent on ice cream at community band event, SDSU Union holiday tree
sponsorship.
●Our fiscal year ends on December 31 (2021) and this money does not roll over.
●Future options:
○new ornaments
■consider if a holiday ornament represents the diversity of cultural practice in
the Brookings community
○keychain
■non-holiday-centered
■different offering for those who have already received a
○coozie
●Proposed budget is already submitted for same amount for 2022.
5. Officer Updates:

c.Recorder
●Aysia has requested edit for last name alphabetical order for committee members on
agenda. Susan will contact Bonnie to make the edit in Legistar.
●Aysia will send amended 11/18/21 minutes via e-mail this afternoon along with 12/16/21
minutes.
d.Publicity coordinator
●Mark mentioned that Tyler (who originally designed the logo for ornaments, sticky notes, and
Chelsie came up with the "What if it was me?" tagline) has additional images that can be
used for promo.
e.City ADA coordinator -
●Susan will ask Kaylee Bolton and Kristen Witchey about continued participation on the
committee.
f.County ADA coordinator
●No updates at this time.
g.SDSU Liaison
●Position currently unfilled.
6. Events/Public Promotions:
a.Mayor's Award Ceremony recap
○Matt: Congratulations to everyone who helped make it happen. Awardees all
attended.
○Aysia: Kerrie from marketing at the Children's Museum asked for and received the
images from the award ceremony.
○Mark: Dick Peterson (Cinema 8) has mentioned that he may be interested in future
collaboration with the Disability Awareness Committee.
b.SDSU Student Union Festival of Trees recap
○Jenny: Alyssa did all the work and it looked great on social media.
c.Ideas for Q1 Awareness Events
○Izzy:ARTability in Sioux Falls is happening on April 1, 2022.
○Aysia: Developmental Disabilities Month is in March, and World Down Syndrome Day
annually on March 21.
○Mark: World Wheelchair Day is annually on March 1.
○Carol: Ski for Light (Sons of Norway, Oakwood Lakes State Park) is happening this
year from January 30 through February 6, 2022.
○Jenny: Will have her partner (who works at the state park) check to see what events
are planned.
7. Subcommittee/Task Force Updates:
a.Marketing Subcommittee
●Mark: Benefited from BATA services to the Mayor's Award Ceremony, would like to
encourage others to contract with BATA for "off hours" and utilize the service.
●Matt: Verified cost of 3 hours of BATA "off hours" service ($100).
●Aysia: Brought up United Way even happening on Monday, February 21.
●Rachel: Has people on her caseload who could utilize BATA tokens, if we make a
budget investment in the service.
●Aysia: Mentioned parent-child playgroups happening at Children's Museum in
February and March (Thursdays at 10 a.m. from February 3 through March 10).
Mark proposed that we purchase BATA tokens under this year's budget. 200 tokens would cost $600
($3/a piece).
A motion to purchase $600 in BATA tokens was made by Mark, seconded by Izzy. The motion
carried by the following votes:

●Matt: Meeting for the first time on Tuesday, December 21.
8. Other Items:
a.Next meeting date & format
●Aysia: Proposed Thursday, January 27 at 12:00 p.m. All in favor. Susan will ensure
that meeting room is booked.
9. Announcements
●Susan: Verified 2021 budget total. We've used $891.06, remaining balance $2,108.94.
