HomeMy WebLinkAboutBPAC Minutes_2021_10_21City of Brookings Meeting Minutes Brookings Public Arts Commission Thursday, October 21, 2021 12:00 PM City/County Building, Rm 241 1. Call to Order and Verbal Roll Call Members present: Julia Eberhart, Jean Jostad, Kate Treiber, Taylor McKeown, and Linda Purrington. Others present: Betty Beer, Dusty Rodiek, and Matthew Weiss (designArc Group). 2. Approval of Agenda Motion by Jean Jostad to approve agenda as distributed. Seconded by Linda Purrington. Approved unanimously. 3. Approval of Minutes Motion by Linda Purrington to approve 7/21/2021 minutes as submitted. Seconded by Jean Jostad. Approved unanimously. 4. Old Business: A. Poet Laureate Poetry Walk – Matthew Weiss and Betty Beer presented their updated application for the Poet Laureate Poetry Walk. Matthew reported that the Brookings City Engineer said an outside contractor would have to install the plaques. The addition of an indoor component was discussed; those elements would be displayed in private businesses. It was noted that BPAC funds could not be used for this indoor portion of the project. Installation would likely take place in spring or summer if additional funding is secured. Motion by Linda Purrington to approve $8,000 funding towards the project. Seconded by Julia Eberhart. Approved unanimously. B. Conditions/Maintenance Report and Recommendations Update - Taylor McKeown reported that Artisan Concrete completed the restoration work on Sanctuary in Larson Park in August. Darwin Wolf completed yearly maintenance work on The Little Professor and The Guardian at the Police Department. C. Bob Shelden Capital Improvement Project – Arts Opportunity Update Taylor McKeown reported that due to material delays, the artist’s contracts have been extended through May 31, 2022. The sculpture will be installed in the spring. D. Other Projects or Opportunities: 1. Harmony Park Musical Sculptures – Rotary District 5610 Grant Update Taylor McKeown reported that the opening celebration occurred in October. 2. Light Pole Banners Dusty Rodiek reported that there is a City new banner policy. 3. City/County Building Collection The commission discussed assigning a fixed annual allowance for acquisitions for the City/County Building, including the possibility of outdoor pieces. 5. New Business: No new business. 6. Correspondence/Announcements/Calendar A. Next Meeting: January 13, 2022 at Noon 7. Adjournment Motion by Jean Jostad to adjourn. Linda Purrington seconded.
