Item #4 - Airport Manager's Report - Sommerfeld reminded everyone about the
Airport Conference coming April 6th and 7th in Pierre. Registrations have been
sent for VanLiere, Riedesel, Smidt, Klocker and Sommerfeld. Room reservations
have been made also.
A CIP meeting has been scheduled with Helms for March 29th. This meeting is
being scheduled early due to FAA deadlines.
The Snow Removal Equipment bid is ready to go. The Bid Letting is scheduled for
March 29th.
There was one snow event that required some snow and ice removal within the
last month. No airport closures so far this winter season.
Sommerfeld reviewed the VirTower reports with everyone.
Staff met with the Development Review Team and Isaac Wilde to discuss what
would need to be done to get the airpark at the Airport. There is infrastructure,
planning, and zoning that would all need to be done and will take at least a
year to get done. The land would need to be annexed into the City to allow for
water and sewer to be installed. There will be substantial expenses related to
this project. McLaughlin asked "if this airpark were built, would this affect the
current Airport Layout Plan (ALP)? Sommerfeld reported that they will need to
update the ALP.
Hansen updated everyone on the schedule of the hangar being built. Since the
weather has been cooperating, they plan to start doing some subgrade work in
a couple of weeks. The drainage study has not been complete yet. They are
waiting to hear final word from Helms on this, hopefully yet this week.
Items #5 - SDSU Report - Bastmeyer reported that have flown about 2700 hours
already this month and he estimates that they will fly nearly 5,000 hours by the
end of the month. They will be receiving their new Cesna within a couple of
weeks. The City and SDSU are working together to install some security cameras
at the Airport. Hopefully that will be complete this summer.
Item #6 - FBO Report - They received a load of AvGas yesterday and have
ordered a load of Jet fuel.
Items #7 - Other Items & Reports - None.
Item #8 - Next Scheduled Meeting - April 21, 2022
