BOARD OF TRUSTEES
April 15, 2019
MEETING MINUTES
The Board of Trustees of the Brookings Public Library met on Monday, April 15, 2019 at 5:30 pm in the Historical Room at the
Brookings Public Library.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Deb Waltman, Sarah Meusburger, James Rice, Kathy Miller, Doug O’Neill
OTHERS PRESENT: Ashia Gustafson, Jacob Meshke, Jen Anderson
1. Call to Order
Deb Waltman called the meeting to order. Ashia Gustafson introduced the Assistant City Manager, Jacob Meshke to the Library
Board.
2. Approval of Agenda
Deb Waltman called for approval of the meeting agenda. James Rice moved to approve the meeting agenda. Kathy Miller
seconded. Motion carried.
3. Approval of Minutes
Deb Waltman called for approval of the minutes from the March 18, 2019 meeting. Kathy Miller moved to approve the meeting
minutes. James Rice seconded. Motion carried.

5.1 Approval of Bills
The Board discussed the 2019 bills, budgets and expenditures. James Rice moved to approve March 2019 bills. Kathy Miller
seconded. Motion carried.
5.2 Library Safety Assessment
Library Board members attended a session at SDLA Conference in 2018 on safety assessment. The Library Board discussed
safety assessment and training for staff. Kathy Miller moved to have Ashia Gustafson work with the City of Brookings to have a
safety assessment completed for the Library. Sarah Meusburger seconded. Motion carried.
5.3 Materials Selection Policy
Ashia Gustafson provided the Materials Selection Policy with the updates on the Library’s board games section. Kathy Miller
moved to update verbiage to add board games in the Material Selection Policy. James Rice seconded. Motion carried.
6. Other Items & Reports
6.1 Financial Report
Ashia Gustafson presented the review of the March 2019 budgets to the Library Board. Ashia Gustafson will be receiving
sample carpet squares soon to make a carpet selection for the Library.
6.2 Librarian’s Report
Ashia Gustafson presented the monthly report to the Library Board. Rae Brecht is retiring on Friday, May 10 after 33 years of
service at the Library.

James Rice moved to adjourn the meeting. Sarah Meusburger seconded. The meeting adjourned at 6:10 pm.
