Attendance: Connie Lemke, Rachel Holm, Brianna Doran, Jenny Grendler, Mark Sternhagen, Amber
Alvey, Susan Rotert, and Amber Alvey
Absent: DeStini Crevier, Matthew Weiss, Laura Littlecot
Guests: none
Chair Sternhagen called the meeting to order at 12:14 pm
Doran made a motion and Holm seconded to adopt the agenda as presented. Motion passed
Doran made a motion, and Grendler seconded to approve the minutes of July meeting. Motion passed.
New Board Member—SDSU representative Amber Alvey was introduced
Independent Living Choices/Department of Social Services partnership; for donation of
Equipment
o Discussion as to what the role of the committee would be in the process for getting
equipment to people who need it. It was decided we will be a resource for information
to direct people to the two resources that provided equipment.
Statewide Independent Living Council meeting in Brookings 9/11
Public Promotions
o Review of marketing/brochures
Susan will follow up to see what flyers we have to duplicate
o “Think about me, leave it free” signs
Discussion on if we want to get some of these signs-tabled
o Update on WhatifItwasme
Website is available for purchase
Discussion regard what we would use the website for and how it would
be different from website with the city—discussion was tabled
Will take post it notes to Mayors social to hand out and share the message with
those in attendance
o Future Promotion
October is Disability Month
Subcommittee was developed to plan an event/promotion –Chair
Brianna, members Connie, Amber, Mark
Motion made by Doran to spend up to $1,000, seconded by Grendler, -
motion passed
o Able Award Discussion
Award will be given at Mayor’s Social
Announcement:
Mark will be speaking on 9/19 at Community Life Center at 2 pm
Mark will be speaking at Independent Living Choices Meeting
Mayor’s Social will be on September 26
Next Meeting:
September 20th in room 241
Adjourn: Motion for adjournment by Doran and seconded by Alvey, motion passed. Meeting adjourned
at 1:06 pm
