HomeMy WebLinkAboutAirMinutes_2021_10_21Brookings Regional Airport Board Brookings, SD 57006 October 21, 2021 The Brookings Airport Board was called to order by Brian VanLiere on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 3:30 PM in Community Room #300, Third Floor. Members present were Brady Klocker, Judy McLaughlin, Ory Smidt, Lynn Riedesel and VanLiere. Also present were Airport Manager Matthew Sommerfeld, Airport Maintenance Technician Lucas Dahl, City Engineer Charlie Richter, FBO - Randy Hansen and Paul Hanusa and SDSU-Devin Bastemeyer. Item #1 - Roll Call Item #2 - (Klocker/Smidt) Motion to approve the agenda. All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED. Item #3 - (Riedesel/McLaughlin) Motion to approve the September 16, 2021 minutes. All present voted aye. MOTION CARRIED. Item #4 - The next scheduled meeting date is Thursday, November 18, 2021, at 3:30 p.m. Item #5 - Hangar Development - Hansen reported that the paperwork has been submitted for a building permit. They are waiting for an Engineering firm to complete a drainage report, they will be utilizing Helms and Associates to complete this report. A preconstruction meeting will be held next week. Item #6 - Airport Manager's Report - Vertower will be installed and being utilized to track and monitor the traffic at the airport, starting in November. Reports will be provided to the airport board on a monthly basis. The striping should be finished today and it looks good. Winter Operations will be discussed next month. There will not be many changes from last year. Sommerfeld explained that they will have a winter operations meeting with staff that will be helping with snow removal at the airport this Winter. Item #7 - Helm's Updates - Currently working on the CIP regarding some funding options for Snow Removal Equipment (SRE) for 2022. This equipment, if able to be purchased, will allow the airport staff to clear snow at a much higher speed. Items #8 - SDSU Report - Bastemeyer reported that the flight hours have been increasing significantly. SDSU would like to increase their fleet to allow them to increase the number of students in the Aviation program. They currently have about 135 students. Item #9 - FBO Report - Hanusa reported that they have increasing jet traffic. They continue to have good sales on fuel. Items #10 - Other Items & Reports - None.
