Call to Order and Verbal Roll Call Members present: Darla Biel, Jean Jostad, Kate Treiber, Taylor McKeown, Linda Purrington, and Ashley Biggar. Others present: Dusty Rodiek, Ronda May and Ashley Ragsdale 2. Approval of Agenda Motion by Jean Jostad to approve agenda as distributed. Seconded by Linda Purrington. Approved unanimously. 3. Approval of Minutes Motion by Jean Jostad to approve 1/7/2021 minutes as submitted. Seconded by Kate Treiber. Approved unanimously. 4. Old Business: A. 2020-22 Commission Work Plan Ashley Biggar reported that we are moving along with goals for the 2021 year: Sanctuary and The Little Professor restoration, Creation in the Arts opportunity map, Rotary piece at Larson Park, and the Bob Shelden project. B. Conditions/Maintenance Report and Recommendations Update Taylor McKeown reported that he will meet with Chad Guthmiller from Artisan Concrete this spring to go over the repair needs of Michael Warrick’s sculpture, Sanctuary, in Larson Park. Ashley Ragsdale will obtain quotes for consistent labeling of public art pieces. C. Bob Shelden Capital Improvement Project – Arts Opportunity Update Darla Biel reported that the original piece is being fabricated, with installation scheduled for August or September. D. Collaborative Opportunities with Brookings Arts Council: 1. NEA Our Town Grant Update: No update. Awards are typically announced in April. E. Other Projects or Opportunities: 1. Harmony Park Musical Sculptures – Rotary District 5610 Grant Update Ashley Ragsdale reported that installation is scheduled for May or August, dependent on weather. 2. Marketing & Education Sub-Committee Kate Treiber suggested that we form a sub- committee to educate, market, and promote the Commission’s work. Darla Biel, Ashley Biggar, Jean Jostad, Linda Purrington, Kate Treiber volunteered to serve on the sub- committee. 5. New Business: A. Select/Direct Installation Ideas Members discussed available funding and possible future projects 1. Light Pole Bannners Ashley Biggar suggested we produce light pole banners that would highlight public art pieces, possibly depicted by local artists. Installation and de- installation would be factored into the cost. Idea tabled until the next meeting. 2. City/County Building Collection Ashley Ragsdale suggested we add a budget line for additions to the City/County Building collection. Darla Biel suggested we bring in temporary contemporary exhibits. Ideas tabled until the next meeting. 3. Financial Update Ashley Biggar will send out the budget ahead of the next meeting 6. Correspondence/Announcements/Calendar A. Next Meeting: July 22 at Noon 7.
