HomeMy WebLinkAboutTSCMinutes_2021_02_181 BROOKINGS TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMITTEE City & County Government Center, 520 3rd Street Online: Go To Meeting Thursday, February 18, 2021 12:10 p.m. The Brookings Traffic Safety Committee held its monthly meeting on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at 12:10pm Online. Members Present: Jackie Lanning, Dave Erickson, Lewayne Erickson, Charles Schnabel, Don Norton, Jake McGlade, Justin Bucher, Tony Sonnenburg, and Jeremy Linstad. Members Absent: Kacie Richard, Brian Lueders, Gary Gramm, Stacy Perry, and Tim Heaton. Others Present: Call to Order: L. Erickson called the meeting to order. Approval of Minutes: T. Sonnenburg / D.Norton made a motion to approve the minutes from the December meeting. All present voted aye. Motion passed. Additions to Agenda: Old Business: New Business: Election of Officers for 2021 The committee briefly discussed the election of officers. D. Norton / T. Sonnenburg made a motion to nominate Lewayne Erickson as Chair of the Traffic Safety Committee. All present voted aye. Motion passed. T. Sonnenburg/D. Norton made a motion to nominate Kacie Richard as Vice-Chair of the Traffic Safety Committee. All present voted aye. Motion passed. Update on 2021 Construction Projects Lanning updated the committee on the intersection of Medary Avenue South and 8th Street South. The city will be replacing the traffic signal. Installing a new west bound turn lane. North right turn lane. This will be happening in 2021 and will be completed before the school in August. Installing a 8 food wide shared use path along the north side of 8th Street. Lanning updated the committee on the Chip Seal projects. Working on the northern and east part of Brookings. This will be taking place in August. 2 Lanning updated the committee on the drainage project in the Jefferson Avenue and Lincoln Lane Area. The city will be installing new storm sewer. Routing the water in the street. Lanning updated the committee on the intersection of 8th Street South and Main Avenue South will be rebuilding this intersection with concrete this summer and updated the traffic signals as well. Update on 20th Street South Interchange Project Lanning updated the committee on the 20th Street South Interchange project. There will be a traffic signal included in this project. On 34th Avenue there will be a 2-way stop sign at this intersection. On the east side there will be ramps and the west side there will be a clover. The consultants are continuing their appraisal interviews with the property owners along 20th Street South which are scheduled to be completed around the end of February. The consultants will then meet with the land owners and mobile home owners to propose purchase offers in approximately March. The land negotiations and purchase offers will need to be concluded in June, 2021 to meet the grant deadline. We will bid in the fall of 2021 and start construction in 2022 and finishing in 2023. 20th Street interchange.com is the website to find out more information. Review and approval of the 2020 Traffic Safety Committee Annual Report The committee discussed the annual report C.Schnabel/ D.Norton made a motion to approve the annual report.
