HomeMy WebLinkAboutPACMinutes_2021_01_07 1. Call To Order and Verbal Roll Call Members present: Darla Biel, Jean Jostad, Kate Treiber, Taylor McKeown, Linda Purrington, Brian Rex and Ashley Biggar. Others present: Dusty Rodiek, Stacy Claussen and Ashley Ragsdale. 2. Approval of Agenda Motion by Jean Jostad to approve agenda as distributed. Seconded by Taylor McKeown. Approved unanimously. 3. Approval of Minutes Motion by Kate Treiber to approve 12/3/2020 minutes as submitted. Seconded by Taylor McKeown. Approved unanimously. 4. Old Business: A. Continued Discussion on Meeting Dates Motion by Darla Biel to change by-laws, replacing language that states “Meetings will be held monthly” with that from City code: Sec. 2-257: “The Brookings Public Arts Commission (BPAC) will meet at such times and places and may be determined by the commission. A majority of members of the BPAC shall constitute a quorum. BPAC meetings shall be open to the public and shall comply with City open meetings policies.” Seconded by Ashley Biggar. Approved unanimously. Those present determined the remaining regular 2021 meetings will be scheduled at noon on April 1, July 1 and October 7, with special meetings being called if needed. B. 2020-22 Commission Work Plan Kate Treiber distributed a link to this work plan and will make updates. C. Conditions/Maintenance Report and Recommendations Update Taylor McKeown reported that Chad Guthmillar from Artisan Concrete submitted a bid of $3500 for restoration and repair of Michael Warrick’s sculpture, “Sanctuary,” in Larson Park. (Previous bid was for $6,540 from Gage Brothers.) Motion by Taylor McKeown to accept this bid and work with Dusty to schedule. Seconded by Linda Purrington. Approved unanimously. D. Bob Shelden Capital Improvement Project - Arts Opportunity Update Darla reported the artists (https://www.reedmadden.com/_ have been paid the first installment and the original piece is being fabricated. E. Collaborative Opportunities with Brookings Arts Council: 1. NEA Our Town Grant Update: No update. Awards are typically announced in April. F. Other Projects or Opportunities: 1. Harmony Park Musical Sculptures - Rotary District 5610 Grant Update Rotary has the match funds onhand. Ashley Ragsdale and Dusty Rodiek have had discussions about the site (Larson Park) and pieces that might work, and will call a meeting with the art selection panel (Ashley, Dusty, Kay Norton from Rotary, and Jamison Lamp) to prepare proposal to BPAC. Kay will advise on how Rotary would like to indicate their partnership. Ashley Ragsdale noted that BPAC’s involvement should also be indicated somehow. 5.
