1. The meeting was called to order at 12:10 pm by chair Doran.
i. Approval of Agenda-Grender motion to approve the agenda as presented. Holms
2nd. The motion carried by the following votes: Yes: Weiss, Doran, Grendler,
Sternhagen, Holm, Creiver, No:
2. Approval of Minutes-Sternhagen motioned to approve the August minutes as presented. Crevier
second. The motion carried by the following votes: Yes: Weiss, Doran, Grendler, Sternhagen, Holm,
Creiver, No:
3. Budget Update---$3,580
4. Officer Updates:
a. Chair
i. Working to set up a working document share drive, so all committee members have
access to documents
ii. Hoping to set up a mini retreat in November to engage member and set goals for
the committee
iii. Please feel free to bring ideas forth
b. Vice Chair
i. Working on defining the role—a. run meeting in chairs absence, point of contact for
committee member engagement and attendance, educational items—bi-annually
and updating/reviewing by-laws
c. Recorder
i. No update
d. Publicity coordinator
i. Suggestion to combine the approval of agenda and minutes
ii. Merging of the marketing committee and whatifitwasme task force
iii. Like and share posts on the Facebook page
e. City ADA Coordinator
i. Discussion regarding potential new members. Kaylee Bolton no longer at SDSU, but
would like to be a member of the committee. Andrew Royer has not responded
since March—Matt will reach out.
f. County ADA Coordinator
i. No update
5. Public Promotions
a. NDEA
i. no update yet on email sent out about videos
ii. Mark uploaded his video
iii. Still working on event for early October-Doran will follow up
iv. Proclamation will be done at October 13th city council meeting, please attend
virtually or in person
b. 2020 Awards
i. Abel Award-
1. Reviewed submissions: Sternhagen motions to give 2020 ABEL award to
Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce. Doran 2nd, Roll Call voted was
called following discussion of deadline, how to recognize them, Susan will
check on when their open house will be—motion made by Weiss to use the
same template as last year, adding the committee logo to the plague, and
any additional recognition would be at the discretion of Marketing
subcommittee. Doran seconded motion. Both motion carried by the
following votes: Yes: Weiss, Doran, Grendler, Sternhagen, Holm, Lemke,
Creiver, No:
ii. Employer Award
1. No nominees were submitted—Grendler made a motion to extend the
deadline to October 13, Holm seconded. Discussion—Doran will get a list of
business that Career Advantage works with. The motion carried by the
following votes: Yes: Weiss, Doran, Grendler, Sternhagen, Holm, Lemke,
Creiver, No:
6. Committee/Taskforce Updates
a. Marketing Sub-committee
i. Doran made a motion to merge marketing and whatifitwasme task force. Weiss
seconded, The motion carried by the following votes: Yes: Weiss, Doran, Grendler,
Sternhagen, Holm, Lemke, Creiver, No:
ii. Sternhagen made a motion to spend up to $500 for 2020 awards and promotion of
NDEA. Weiss second. The motion carried by the following votes: Yes: Weiss, Doran,
Grendler, Sternhagen, Holm, Lemke, Creiver, No:
iii. Discussion about how the subcommittee will be structured. An invite will be sent
out to all committee members to join if they would like.
iv. Discussion about shirts for committee members. Item was tabled to get more
options
b. Whatifitwas me Taskforce
c. Accessibility Taskforce
i. Weiss will set up a meeting for member who said they would join
7. Other Items
a. SDSU liaison position
i. Discussion open it to all SDSU staff, keep it closed, or wait until the position is filled
–Grendler motioned to wait to fill this until the SDSU position is filled, Weiss second.

b. New Committee members
i. Sternhagen motioned to open the committee to general public to fill up to three
spots. Holms second. Discussion regarding how many city and county residents can
be on the committee. Susan will investigate and email out. The motion carried by
the following votes: Yes: Weiss, Doran, Grendler, Sternhagen, Holm, Lemke, Creiver,
No:
c. By-law discussion will happen at a later date.
d. Discussion about using CARES money to get automatic doors to Mayor’s door, Susan will
bring item to City
8. Announcement
a. Sternhagen made a motion to spend $50 to send out promotional material for upcoming
speaking engagements. Grendler second. The motion carried by the following votes: Yes:

b. A video was completed and sent out from Susan by Monday
c. At the last chamber meeting, they approved for the Ram Pub can put up a ramp on the city
side walk so there will be access to the main floor.
9. Next meeting --a hybrid meeting on October 23rd at 12 pm
