Minutes
Dec. 12, 2019
1.Meeting was called to order at 12:00 Noon. A quorum was present.
2.The agenda was adopted.as distributed.
3.The minutes from November were approved as distributed.
Old Business
A.City/County Building Art Update
Several art professors from SDSU have indicated interest. Email received from a
Sioux Falls artist, as well as one proposal from an artist in Iowa City. The
deadline is Jan. 15, 2020, so the selection panel hopes to have more applicants
after the holidays. Commission members are asked to share the call widely.
B.Maintainence Update
Park and Rec have started working to repair sculpture at Hillcrest Park. Work will
continue as weather permits. Dusty and Lynn are still waiting for a quote from
Gage Brothers for the sculpture in Larson Park.
C.Bob Sheldon Field
Arts Selection Panel will be formed. Dusty will reach out to get a representative
from Friends of Baseball. A representative from RDG will not be added until the
call is closed. The Acquisitions Policy section of the Public Arts Guidelines will be
followed. Ashley will ask Andy Lee as a representative from the Brookings.
Motion to approve selection panel for this call (Lynn) and seconded by Ashley.
Motion carries.
New Business
A.Paint the Plows
Discussion about partnership with Brookings Arts Council on a “Paint the Plows”
program. Ashley Ragsdale and BAC would coordinate. BPAC would cover cost
and help with publicity and a reception/public event in Fall 2020. Motion by
Jamison to approve $250 to help BAC with funding. Second by Ashley. Motion
carries after discussion.
B.2020 Calendar and Officers
Discussion of changing meeting to 1st Thursday. Discussion of adding term limits
to the by-laws. Darla Biel willing to serve as Chair for 2020; Ashley Biggar willing
to serve as Vice-Chair. Secretary position needed to be filled. Will discuss and
vote at January meeting.
