HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020_12_03 PAC MinutesBrookings Public Arts Commission Meeting Notes Thursday, December 3, 2020 12 PM GoTo Phone Meeting 1. Call to Order: Roll Call – Members present: Darla Biel, Jean Jostad, Kate Treiber, Jamison Lamp, Taylor McKeown, Linda Purrington, Carrie Kuhl, Brian Rex, and Ashley Biggar. Others present Dusty Rodiek, Stacy Claussen, and Ashley Ragsdale 2. Approval of Agenda 3. Old Business: A. 2020-22 Commission Work Plan: No update. B. Conditions/Maintenance Report & Recommendations: 1) Little Professor: $125/year piece by the police station. Motion by Darla Biel to add 3 pieces to annual maintenance and do initial maintenance, seconded by Carrie Kuhl; motion carried. 2) Larson Park piece: landscaping done. Dusty said plan was to re-rock around base & cut back to point where they are now, and they will grow back & be maintained. Darla said piece is much more visible now. Taylor called Chad at Artisan & will reconnect. 3) Other Maintenance? Jamison – how are we tracking maintenance being done? Kate suggested that we put that in the workplan. C. Bob Shelden Capital Improvement Project: Dusty and Darla asked to attend a Study Session. Council has seen full proposal, goes for vote on Dec 8, and last order is to accept contract. D. Collaborative Opportunities with Brookings Arts Council: 1) NEA Our Town Grant Update: We won’t hear anything back until around April. E. Other Projects or Opportunities: 1) Harmony Park Musical Sculptures: Rotary put out a press release & added BAC to piece after release. Selection committee put together plan. Jamison will sit on committee along with Kay Norton, Ashley Ragsdale, Dusty and will meet to review to put together plan to submit for approval to BPAC. 2) Donation: Jean Jostad donated a new sculpture to BAC. When they redid BAC, there was a pad for alternating sculptures. Sculpture is a large vintage clock with lights. Has two removable tile panels to have new artist create each year and rotate out. Since this is a City owned building, BAC in charge of maintenance, but needs approval from this Commission. Darla Biel motioned to approve & celebrate the gift of the clock, seconded by Ashley Biggar; motion carried. Dusty will wo May unveil it. 4. New Business: A. 2021 Officers: Ashley Biggar offered to become Chairperson and Tyler McKeown offered to become Vice Chair. Secretary/minute taker – group will think about this more & decide next meeting. B. Carrie Kuhl’s Term/Position: Carrie is representing Historic Preservation. Her term on Preservation is up in Dec. so will be resigning from PAC as well. Historic Preservation is looking for someone to replace her spot for this term until 2022. C. 2021 Attendance: Not miss 3 consecutive meetings in a row. Bylaws state that we meet monthly – Darla will check with Bonnie to see if we can change this.
