Hotels submit tax reports by the 20th of each month. 2017 occupancy was 53%, down from 2016 (which was 60%), possibly due to a variety of factors such as extensive road construction on 6th Street during 2017 peak season, as well as the addition of a new hotel into the market (March 2017). The committee reviewed extended stay numbers compared to previous years. Extended stay is defined as 28 or more consecutive days. Struck shared when the BID started in 2012 there were lots of extended stays due to large construction projects in Brookings and the surrounding area. 2017 BID financials were reviewed. $243,417.19 revenues collected; $217,500 paid to CVB; $4,932.53 administration fee paid to the City (capped by a certain percentage); year-end balance $20,984.66. Johnson reviewed the CVB 2017 annual report. 23 new events in 2017, overall economic impact of event recruitment and support was slightly down, but still strong at $9.6 million. 3.8 million impressions from advertising and marketing efforts. Third B also slightly up year-over-year. 5. Action to approve a 2019 Plan of Improvements for Business Improvement District #1 Discussion of overall budgeting and City G&E Policy. Discussion of BID board role regarding relating the committee’s goals and ideas to the City Manager and City Council.
