Call to Order: Roll Call - Commission members: Trayce Meyer – Absent, Linda Purrington - Absent (joined mid meeting), Darla Biel – Present, Kate Treiber – Present, Jean Jostad – Present, Taylor McKeown – Present, Jamison Lamp – Absent, Carrie Kuhl – Present, Ashley Biggar – Present, Scott Wallace – Absent (joined mid meeting); City Staff: Dusty Rodiek – Present & Jake Meshke – Present; Other: Ashley Ragsdale – Present. 2. Approval of Agenda: Motion to approve by Jean Jostad, seconded by – Kate Treiber; motion approved by roll call: Darla Biel – Yes, Kate Treiber – Yes, Jean Jostad – Yes, Taylor McKeown – Yes, Carrie Kuhl – Yes, Ashley Biggar – Yes. 3. Old Business: A. 2020-22 Commission Work Plan: Tabled until meet in-person. Discussion: Will have conversation if we meet verbally next time so we don’t lose track. Kate made some notes on them last meeting and will update with this meeting. B. City/County Building Art Update: No update from last time. July will come to get inspiration for piece. C. Conditions/Maintenance Report & Recommendations: Taylor updated with following up with second quote – with American Art in New Ulm – doesn’t do repair work. Gave name for Minneapolis but feels that is a little far. Gage Bros quote for $6120 cleaned, repaired, and add clear sealant for 420 dollars. Damage is extensive. Taylor will reach out to find other quotes. They are the company that did original cast in 1990 and worked with the artist. Darla asked who funded it in the first place – was there private funders that would help with the cost of the repair. Jean was part of the selection committee with the Arts Council and will look through paperwork. Ashley Ragsdale will look in her records. Taylor will also look into this. Dusty update – wooden piece - Chase - at Hillcrest got restained, reconditioned, and is completed. Larson Park landscaping has been given to contractor. D. Paint the Plows: Tabled E. Bob Shelden Capital Improvement Project: Discussion: Interest from artists from 9 different states. Doesn’t close until June 30th. The task force will jury and work down selection. F. Harmony Hill Musical Playground Update: Committed matching grant with Rotary. Kate was looking to go to CASA Board to tie this in with a memorial & they’re interested in learning more. If there is something that can be done adjacent to it – something different but that can contribute. Next steps, Julie wants to enter a conversation to discuss this further. Darla feels this should include Don Norton and Ashley Ragsdale. Dusty wants to go out on sight with Ashley to know where the structure goes. In Larson Park. Grant is due to District Rotary end of July. 5. New Business 6. Correspondence/Announcements/Calendar: A. Next Meeting: Thursday, August 6, 2020 B. Art Museum 50th Anniversary: Taylor said plan to open with wonderful exhibits. C. Carrie Kuhl – working from home. Historic Preservation still meeting monthly. Approving 11-1 reviews and working through strategic plan. D. Kate with Children’s Museum – still getting community and stake holder comfortability in meeting them and finding right balance for emotional wellbeing through play but the way that they want to have people experience is hard to do with social distancing. Looking for the best model to offer some potential on-sight play. No date set yet to open. E. Brookings Arts Council: Open 9 AM – 1 PM, online and in person classes. In-person registration is down but that was expected. Able to transition all summer classes online if necessary. F. Downtown Brookings G. Brookings CVB/Tourism: Kate liaison. They’re moving and Great 8 social media posts. Help to promote the new logo and Visit Brookings. Working on a new content campaign to educate on the what the CVB is and reminding people that we’re here when you’re ready. Carrie – made a new logo and branding package which will be released in the next week or two and asking people to share posts. H. Brookings Summer Arts Festival: checks sent back and look forward to next year – Ashley R thinks it’s their 50th. I. Americans for the Arts Public Arts & Civic Design Conference: June 23-25, 2020 (virtual): Darla received email. Asking for $275 support for Ashley Ragsdale to attend. Ashley applied for scholarship - June 16 deadline. Motion to commit up to $275 to send Ashley made by Linda Purrington, seconded by Scott Wallace, motion approved by roll call: Darla Biel – Yes, Kate Treiber – Yes, Jean Jostad – Yes, Taylor McKeown – Yes, Carrie Kuhl – Yes, Ashley Biggar – Yes, Scott Wallace – Yes, Linda Purrington – Yes. 7.
