Public Arts Commission Meeting Minutes
Thursday, February 6, 2020 12:00 PM Room 147
1. Call To Order
• By Darla Biel at 12:00pm
• Roll Call: Trayce Meyer, Linda Purrington, Darla Biel, Kate Treiber, Jean Jostad, Jamison
Lamp, Carrie Kuhl, Ashley Biggar, and Scott Wallace. City Staff: Dusty Rodiek & Stacy
Claussen. Also present: Ashley Ragsdale.
2. Approval of Agenda
• Motion to approve current agenda made by Kate Treiber, seconded by Trayce Meyer; motion
carried.
3. Approval of Minutes
• Motion to approve minutes by Trayce Meyer, seconded by Kate Treiber; motion carried.
4. Old Business:
A. City/County Building Art: Final Selection of Artist Discussion:
Review of process by Darla which included presentations. Carey Dean proposal ranked
number one. Motion to move forward with Carey Dean proposal made by Scott Wallace,
seconded by Jean Jostad; motion carried.
B. Conditions/Maintenance Report & Recommendations Update Discussion:
Dusty looking into proposals for maintenance.
C. Paint the Plows Update Discussion:
Ashley Ragsdale looking at weekends to have displayed with City maintenance schedule
before snow season.
D. Bob Shelden Capital Improvement Project / Arts Opportunity Update Discussion:
Starting process for proposal call. Process will be in two phases: RFQ and RFP. RFP will have
up to 3 full proposals with honorarium. June 23rd deadline for artist selection. Will be requesting
public input as further into the project. Can buy ad for email blast on CAFÉ.
• Motion to pay for an email blast through CAFÉ with call made by Jean Jostad, seconded by
Linda Purrington; motion carried.
5. New Business:
A. Chuck Bennis Mural at Brookings Public Library (BAC) Discussion:
Review of proposed mural by Chuck Bennis at the Library presented by Ashley Ragsdale. Six
panels will be attached behind circulation desk. Motion to approve the proposed mural for the
Library made by Darla Biel, seconded by Trayce Meyer; motion carried.
B. 2020-22 Commission Work Plan: Presentation/Discussion:
Document presented by Kate Treiber. This is a f luid, working document. Split into three
categories with timeline. Discussed Brookings Public Arts Commission education – Darla Biel
will contact Arts Alive.
6. Correspondence/Announcements/Calendar:
Public intake form idea discussed.
