Park and Recreation Board Meeting
Absent: Brittany Kliensausser Present: Eric Dahl, Trent Sorbe, Abigail Howard,
Sara Bentzen, Erika Saunders, Steve Berseth, Shawn Binker
Called to order: 5:30 pm by Eric Dahl
1: Approval of Minutes:
Shawn Binker motioned to approve, Second: Trent Sorbe
All are in Favor
2: Reports:
Darren: Wrapping fall leagues for Volleyball, Teams pay for both seasons,
Holiday Schedule, Elementary basketball starts this week.
Chase: Ice rink, Nature Park,
Al: Christmas decorations ect. Snow removal,
Pete: Planning for next year, Sports Field Master Plan, ADA plans,
3: Additions to and approval of agenda

4: Discussion and approval of Summer Rec Activities and Edgebrook Golf Coarse
Fees for 2015:
Golf Fees: Gary has been offered the contract, nothing has been signed yet but it
has been delivered.
Pete: Explain the breakdown of the discussion of a couple of weeks work with the
department and with the Mohens. Pete has been charged to protect the 330,000
that has been the average of the past three years of revenue. The numbers being
presented are the most to be comfortable with lowering to stay to make up to keep
the 330,000.
Shawn: Asked if there would be change in fees?
Pete: Mentioned that with the fees presented Gary would have to generally sell 50
more memberships to maintain the revenue as the past three years presented.
Talks about Watertown and other communities going through the same process that
we are doing, the surrounding communities figures are just for comparison only.
Shawn: Asked about Sioux Falls comparison.
Trent: Asked about our fees for the Golf Cart rentals? Why
Pete: Highlighted line items are the prices that the department would be adjusting
Trent: Wondering if fees are off the price structure of the lease?
Pete: Not nessarly, We need to get the cart moving, we are going to actively to
market the carts to have them being used by offering free carts with greens fees,
Lets us the carts to generate revenue.
Shawn: mentions that use of carts speeds up play and overall satisfaction.
Pete: Garys mantra is to grow the game, we want to help that as much as we can and
also protect the 330,000.
Eric: States that he is excited about expanding the Play of Tournaments that will
bring revenue and help on the bad weather days.
Doug Smith (Visitors): Years ago there was a city county tournament and would
like to see that happen again.
Gary: He is comfortable with the rates that are presented.
Pete: Would like to approve
Trent: Would like to talk about the golf cart rental: If we feel like the number should
be lower if we need to do that.
Gary: hopes that will the Season pass will drive people to get the cart and
membership.
Trent: Trust us to make the decision to about the cart rental
Doug, from a golf perspective, it is in the individual pass area that is expensive for
people.
Gary: Website does not get a whole lot of use. We want to get the people to come
out to pay the menu rates.
Eric: There is not intention to hurry the discussion, if discussion is complete. I
would entertain the motion:
Trent: Said that his gut says the season individual cart of $495 is to high.
Trent : Motion to go down to $449 and $519 for family couple. Second by Shawn B.
Discussion:
Erica asked about College play,
Trent and Shawn talk about that they are going to need to go down to 400?
Shawn: needs to get the money up front and that is what gets us through the season.
Trent: Would like to amend the motion to change the young adult to $399 for
membership with cart for individual to $449 and $519 for family and couple.
(purches the Individual ticket and then $70 for the additional member to be $519)
Second by: Abigal.
Vote: In Favor: All, Steve Had left the meeting by this time.
Eric: Would like to entertain a motion for the rest of the proposed golf fees?
Shawn: Who drives price on the driving range:
Pete: It is the department
Abigal: Moves to approve fees as stated. Second: Erica
All in favor: with Steve absent
Recreation notes:
Talked about the fees and how to keep the programs where they were.
Motion by Trent Second by Shawn for Recreation fees to stay the same for this up
coming year. All are in favor with Steve Absent.
5: Discussion of Final Summer Activities Report
Chase Ellis shared with the board the final summer activities report highlighting the
revenue generated from the recreation programs and amount of citizens taking part
in the program and at attendance and cost at Hillcrest Aquatic Center.
6: Continued Discussion of possible indoor recreation facilities for future planning
Just an ongoing discussion.
