Minutes for February 2, 2015 Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Meeting:
1. Call to Order: 5:36 called to order by Erik Dahl
Attendance: Beau Borbewyk, Erica Saunders, Steve Berseth, Erik Dahl, Sarah
Bentzen, Abigail Howard, Trent Sorbe, Sean Binker
2. Approval of Agenda

Reports:
Pete: Talks about the Legistar Program, Margaret retired and Christi started.
Activity Center changes this year. Talked about receiving the Wellmark Grant.

Chase: Summer hiring, Ice Rink, Summer Brochure, Frost Fest February 22,
Al: Guys working on the golf club house, Rebuild the players boxes in the red rink,
ordering poles and lights for the softball complex, doing winter maintenance, got the
outdoor rinks going. Parks got a new Bobcat with Snow blower attachment.
Darren: Bike Friendly Application, Adult leagues are starting to wrap up
4. Old Business
Review of 3 yr contract with Moen Golf Management
All provided the information for the breakdown comparison from the past
three-year. Not much difference from their original proposal. Had a
discussion with the council during one of their study session about the coarse
and the drainage and the fee schedules.
Erica asked about how sales are going so far?
Pete: It has been steady and we have not done a lot of promotion as of yet.

February 10 will be the council meeting that they will vote about drainage.
Erica: How long would it take to get the drainage done?
Pete: it would probably be looking at starting on September and maybe a
little into the spring.
Abigail: How did the plan go from a million down to 450,000?
Pete: Stockwell took out a lot of the fluff and milled it down to functional.
The discussion then talked about drainage money being spent other places in
the community. Pete then talked about how there has not been anything but
positive talk about the drainage and that there are a few voicing concern but
more is just positive feedback.
Trent: He was approached by a country club board member about asking
about equipment that left when Dave left?
Pete: Said that not a lot went with Dave and that most of the staff is the cities.
5. New Business:
Approval of Car Show in Pioneer Park: June 14, 2015
Motion: Trent moves to let them use the park
Second: Abigail
Vote: All in favor
6. Introduction of 2015 Projects:
Al provided a list of major projects that will be done this year onto of the CIP
projects within the budget. It also includes the projects completed this last
year and the year before. One of the big projects will be developing the
Valley View Playground and park. There were delays with the grant money
being dispensed but will be carried out this year.
7. Bike Friendly Community Project
The city is in the process of applying for the City of Brookings to become a
bicycle friendly community. We have had a bike audit that gave direction on
where we are and what more would need to be done. The application looks
at how bikes use arterial roads and what safety features can be added to help
aid in the development of bike friendly neighborhoods.
