HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRMinutes_2018_02_05Parks and Recreation Advisory Board February 5th, 2018 (approved) A meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was held on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. at the Brookings City County Government Center with the following board members present: Jay Larsen, Sean Binker, Steve Berseth, Kristi Larsen and Brittany Kleinsasser. Others present included: Darren Hoff (Recreation Manager), Stacy Claussen (Recreation Manager), Dan Brettschneider (Parks, Recreation & Forestry Director) Al Kruse (Parks & Forestry Superintendent) and Christi Weidemann (Office Manager). 1. Call Meeting to Order. Kleinsasser called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m. 2. Approval of Minutes. Approval of the December Park Board Meeting Minutes. Berseth made the motion to approve the meeting minutes. Motion was 2nd by J. Larsen. All present voted yes; motion carried. 3. Additions to and Approval of Agenda. Approval of the February Agenda. J. Larsen made the motion to approve the meeting agenda. Motion was 2nd by Berseth. All present voted yes; motion carried. 4. Staff Highlights. Brettschneider reported on staff highlights report for December and January. 5. Annual Report Status Update. The 2017 Parks, Recreation & Forestry Annual Report draft was reviewed. The final report is due February 15th. 6. Review 2018 Parks, Recreation & Forestry Capital Improvement Projects. Brettschneider reviewed 2018 Capital Improvement Projects. Dakota Nature Park will receive trail repairs. Hillcrest Aquatic Center leisure pool and splash pool heaters will be replaced. Larson Ice Center is in the process of having the ice refrigeration system inspected for potential repairs/replacement in the future. EdgeBrook Golf Course clubhouse will receive HVAC updates. There will also be a bunker drainage project. South Side Park and Pioneer Park play systems will be replaced. Tennis courts will be resurfaced at Indian Hills Park and Hillcrest Park. 7. South Dakota Parks & Recreation Association Annual Conference Planning. The committee is working on finalizing speakers for the event. Rock The Park and Stacy Bare will be the key speakers. An email was sent to Park and Rec staff throughout the state regarding topics of interest. 8. Upcoming Programs and Events. A monthly “What’s Going On” flyer was sent to board members prior to the meeting for informational purposes. 9. Adjourn. Kleinsasser adjourned. The next meeting will be Monday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the City County Government Center, Community Room 300.
