HomeMy WebLinkAboutM2000_04_14The Mayor's Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities met on Friday, April 14, 2000. Members present: David Hoyt, Kurt Cogswell, Emily Bennett,Roger Seas, Nancy Hartenhoff, Amy Fry, Allen & Lynda Muller and visitorsPatty Bacon and Eugene Butler. Meeting was called to order by Chairmen Cogswell. The agenda was adopted. Minutes of the March meeting were approved. Next meeting is scheduled for May 12. Announcements included the volunteer luncheon scheduled for April 27. Eugene Butler, Disabilities Services and Institutional Compliance Officer gave a fact filled presentation about the duties of his office. He included information about how students at SDSU receive disability services; why more students are requesting services; and also some information about some plans for the immediate future of providing more services to disabled students. Eugene answered many questions from the board. He also stated that he provides services to students, employees, visitors and prospective students. Patty Bacon from Habitat for Humanity presented information about their program. After an overview of their program, she asked for assistance in locating families/individuals with disabilities that may be eligible for the Habitat for Humanity program. There is a new program in partnership with theLyons clubs to help families with disabilities. Several suggestions were given to Patty about getting information about this specific program and Habitat for Humanity in general. Correspondence: Discussion regarding a financial request for the Dare to Dream conferenceresulted in the board voting to not support the request. There will not be anyone attending the local affiliate training in Chamberlain on April 17. Completed projects: See written report from Marla Muxen about Barrier Awareness Day. Positive comments were received about the Homeshow Booth. It is felt that this is a worthwhile event and should be continued. It was suggested that a bigger banner with our name be used. Follow up reports: No report on funding for accessible dock at Lake Campbell. Power point presentation by Mullers is in progress. Letters to Summer Arts Festival and Performing Arts Center by Cogswell were approved. Workshop presentation for the Multi -district students has been set. There are three sessions of building trades classes. Discussion regarding ADA anniversary activities was tabled to May. See written report of ADA Coordinator's report.
