HomeMy WebLinkAboutM2001_09_07Brookings Advisory Committee for People who have Disabilities September 7, 2001 A meeting of the Brookings Advisory Committee for People who have Disabilities was held on Friday, September 7, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the Brookings City Hall. Members present: Emily Bennett, Kurt Cogswell, Amy Fry, Marla Muxen, Nancy Hartenhoff and Roger Seas. Dave Bertelson, Lynda Muller, Dona Kornbaum, Allen Muller, Sue Parrott, and Kay Cutler were absent. Chairman Cogswell called the meeting to order at 11:00. The agenda was adopted as printed. The June minutes were approved. The next meeting was scheduled for October 51h at 11:00 a.m. Easter Seals. Julie Briggs, Easter Seals representative, reviewed the various programs offered by Easter Seals of South Dakota. She reported that Easter Seals will not be holding a wheelchair clinic in Brookings this year. The soonest would be summer of 2002. Cogswell reported that two churches expressed interest in this program. Kids on the Block program: No report. Materials Dissemination: No report. ADA Anniversary Activities: Public service announcements were provide to local radio stations. The SDSU STRIDE group would like to host a workshop this fall. 2002 Budget quest: Thornes reported that every department and program has been asked to make cuts. The Committee's original of request of $3500 will more than likely be reduced. Relay for Life. No wheelchair clinic will be held this year. SDSU activities: SDSU plans to bring in a national comedian with a disability to perform at a breakfast or lunch during Hobo Week in October. They hope to bring in Gerri Jewell next spring. City ADA Coordinator's Report: Thornes reported that the remodeling of the City Hall entrance was cut from the 2002 budget due to shortfalls in revenue.
