/\meeting of the Brookings Committee for People who have Disabilities was held at 2{}0 p�� on
Friday October 8,2OO4otJheBrookings City Hall with Kurt Cogswell osChair. David 8erte|son
was designated as recorder.
Members present were Kurt Cogswell, David BeMe|son, Emily Bennett, Nancy Hortenhoff Crooks
Lisa Sonnanburg/ Kristv Ching, and Shod Thornes- coordinator. Those absent were Dona
Kombaon\ Lois Hotton, Jennifer Austin, Victoria Riggs, and Angie Renfer.
Item I was added to the Agenda.
The minutes were approved oswritten.
The next meeting will be November at 2:00 p.m.
l. Donna Ramsey, owner ofOld City Hall/Fire Hall, has required assistance:
A. She needs technical help about mechanical lifts
B. Egress from front door |s o problem. She added on exterior landing on city right
of vvuy without permit. Also the door swings in. The city Engineer says that the
code requires the door tuswing out. |twas resolve that Shari will contact the city
Historic Preservation Commission and State Preservation Office. Kurt intends
to write a letter to the City Manager requesting a Variance procedure.
2. National Organization on Disability Award Application:
The application would need iobe|nbyOctober 3lIt. |twas resolved todocument events
through the year and try for next year.
3. October Awareness Events:
3 to A places have been presented with the Power point such as the Career Center and
ECMUHand the "education cenier". There will beonattempt to"walk into" some businesses
with handouts, pamphlets, pens with next year's theme. Lisa will meet with John Kubo|with
on article idea. She will highlight on example ofo success and where person hos been
discriminated.
4 Governor's Award :
Nominations are Ron'sAuto. Rom Pu6, Nancy Sdhode.
Nov. 23 Tuesday — Recognition ofNominees otCity Council meeting. Nov, 5
Committee will review nominations
5, Coordinator's Report: Shari reported:
• Questions from Mgr. of Parkview Apts inArlington to review their compliance
submission. The Committee agreed that they can not commit and recommended the
Manager hire uconsultant.
• Accessible seating signage recommendation at the 5vvifte| Center
• Aquatic Family [enh*r-YYe are being involved
• The Police Entry isnot lnthe current budget
• Reviewed o resource book listing references of advocates for Children who have
