HomeMy WebLinkAboutM2004_09_10Brookings Ct t for People w1 ohave ` September A meeting of the Brookings Committee for People who have Disabilities was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10th, 2004 in the Brookings City Hall with the following members present: Kurt Cogswell, Jennifer Mendoza, Victoria Riggs, Emily Bennett, Nancy Hartenhoff-Crooks, David Bertelson, Dona Koinbaum & Lisa Sonnenburg. Members not present: Lois Hatton, Angie Klein & Kristie Ching. Kurt called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. The August minutes were amended and approved. F!_ ir,.I ltlfflm11 Subcommittee report on N.O.D. Award Application: Vicky suggests a review of N.O.D., by having a meeting with subcommittee members as well as take any suggestions from the committee itself. A subcommittee meeting is scheduled for Friday, September 24t" @ 2pm in the Brookings City Hall. October Awareness Events: The subcommittee for NDEAM is currently working on the presentations to employers for the purpose of education. The first presentation is scheduled for September 15th 2004 to B.A.H.R.A. (Brookings Area Human Resource Association). Shari suggested Mayor Scott Munsterman to do the PSA's for the event. Dona, Emily and Lisa will work on the PSA's and will contact John Kubal to do a story in the Register about the event. Lisa talked about a client she works with that would be a good story. Governor's Awards: Suggestions of recipients of the awards. Boys and Girls Club: Vicky suggested our committee to meet with the Director of the Boys and Girls Club to see if there is a need for accommodations, etc. ADA Coordinator'sReport/Announcements: Shari reported on September 21St, 2004, from 6- 8pm there will be a roundtable discussion on the issues resulting from the survey that was sent out to 2700 people in the Brookings Community. This will be held at the Swiftel Center and Mayor Munsterinan is the head of the event. The Mayor's Christmas Party will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2004 at the Performing Arts Center from 5-7pm. Shari reported about the Mayor's Council of Community Wellness. There are 11 members; one member represents a mental health area. Shari reported on the new HUB at the Airport. Community should be utilizing travel out of Brookings. Shari reported a possible new accessible entryway to the Police Station. City needs to get the funding for the project. Meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m. Submitted by Lisa Sonnenburg
