HomeMy WebLinkAboutM2005_05_20Brookings Committee for People who have Disabilities May 20, 2005 A meeting for the Brookings Committee for People who Have Disabilities was held at 2:OOp.m. on Friday, May 20, 2005 in the Brookings City Hall with the following members present: Kurt Cogswell, Vickie Riggs, Jessie Kuechenmeister, Emily Bennett, Nancy Hartenhoff-Crooks and Lisa Sonnenburg. Members not present: Jennifer Mendoza, Dave Bertelson, Christie Ching, Dona Kornbaum and Lois Hatton. Next meeting of the committee is scheduled for Friday, June 101h @ 2p.m. with A.B.L.E. Award site visits at 1p.m. Welcome our new committee member, Jessie Kuechenmeister!!! SD Fall Conference for People who have Disabilities -Brookings Oct. 11 -13th: Emily reported that the luncheon will be held on October 12th and the Governor's Awards will be presented. Nancy and Emily will pick out the plaque or pen set, etc. from Brookings Engraving. Mayor Scott Munsterman will most likely speak at the luncheon. Emily stated that the committee usually donates $500 towards the event. 2006 Budget Proposal: A subcommittee with meet Wednesday, May 251h @ 1p.m. at City Hall to go over the proposal. ABLE Awards: Possible nominations for the award are; Falcon Plastics for their hiring practices, Fishback Soccer fields, Wal-Mart, Fergens Menswear and the new "Madjacks II" strip mall. Announcements/Correspondence/Calendar: The committee will host the annual ADA Celebration in Pioneer Park on July 31st. Nancy reported on August 24th, the CAP Center will have speakers from EEOC talk about "Disabilities & Employment" at the NFA building from 9am-12pm. Free admission. Emily reported that the high school is looking to have Barrier Awareness Days available to the 10111- 1 21h graders to give them a refresher course. Jolene will talk to FCCLA.
