HomeMy WebLinkAboutM2006_01_13Brookings Committee for People who have Disabilities January 13, 2006 A meeting for the Brookings Committee for People who Have Disabilities was held at 2:00p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2006 in the Brookings City Hall with the following members present: Kurt Cogswell, Emily Bennett, Dona Kornbaum, Jessie Kuechenmeister, Dave Bertelsen and Lisa Sonnenburg. Members not present: Vickie Riggs, Nancy Hartenhoff-Crooks, Kristie Ching, Tom Schaffer & Lois Hatton. Next meeting of the committee is scheduled for Friday, February 10, 2006 at 2p.m. Annual Report: Final revisions must be made by Tuesday to Kurt and completed to Shari by February 151h. Chemical Free: Dave and Ken collaborated to review suggestions of a safe and chemical free bathrooms. How can we get the word out there to the public? Ken sent Dave other information. Kurt added, "What would the cost be to retrofit a facility? Dollars and cents, difference, energy savings, etc.?" Bonnie Spectrum received a grant for research to go into the economy pertaining to children and mothers that will last for 20 years. She may implement "chemical free" into her program. Update on Frost Arena: Kurt, Dona and Nancy will meet to look at the Frost Arena on Thursday at l lam. ADA Coordinator's Report: • Shari reported that all the terms were reappointed. • Changes in the website, which includes information about the committees. Agendas and minutes will be open to the public. Developing the volunteer page for easier access. The packets will be uploaded on to the website. Reinstate the city board of training, chair person training, etc. • Perkins Family Restaurant women's bathroom needs a talking to. Lisa and Dona will check out the Perkins restroom. • Can press shoot pictures of the kids at Barrier awareness? Release should come off the city website. Barrier Awareness Days -March: Emily reported that she will call the schools to line up the days and times as well as to target the upper classmen (junior & seniors). Emily would like to get disability awareness across to the kids, come up with ideas, etc. Kurt and Dona suggested "acting out situations" Employer and what do they do? Jessie suggested that the high school has an improv group (Chad Coldwell).
