HomeMy WebLinkAboutM2007_11_16Brookings Committee for People who have Disabilities November 16, 2007 A meeting for the Brookings Committee for People who Have Disabilities was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2007 in the Brookings City Hall with the following members present: Kurt Cogswell, Emily Bennett, Lisa Sonnenburg, Dave Bertelson, Nancy Hartenhoff-Crooks, and Jeff Vostad. Dave Miller, Dona Kornbaum, Victoria Riggs, Erin Brubakken, and Tom Schaffer were absent. Agenda. Emily wanted to add an announcement to the agenda. The amended agenda was adopted. Schedule next meeting - Next meeting of the committee is scheduled for Friday, December 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Emergency Preparedness/Response Program Shari asked us to refer to Page "l of 3" in the handout for National Preparedness Month. Lisa and Nancy along with Shari volunteered to this committee. The "charge "is to get the CITY on board by obtaining a page in the phone book (approach Steve Meyer via Dennis Falken). The scope is to write a simple form like Kurt had plus a step-up version. October Awareness Emily reported 50 people attended the AM training session and Awards program. Governor's Awards All recipients appreciated the awards. The names need to be reissued to the State mid -Dec. Emil stated that it would be nice to know who wins at the state level. T -Shirts No need at this time. Consider name tags; looking for examples. Annual Report Consensus is to use the same format. Due Feb 15. The budget is "sound". Brochures: Lisa intends to add new articles. Conferences: Look into the possibility of reregistering for the St. Louis one. May 12-14, 2008 National ADA Symposium Et Expo - St. Louis, MO ADA Coordinator's Report: A. Downtown Streetscape Project Items reviewed with help from Kurt and Nancy: # and location of accessible parking Passenger and Driver access aisles Bus stop is questionable Dec. 4 - Council is to decide to go into "engineering for construction" B. Organizations Receiving City Funds City Council still giving good support. Tim Reed is reviewing that existing programs are in compliance. C. Central Museum Proiect Shari met with the Architect Dick Dempster and the City. It was suggested that we send a letter to Mr. Date Larson offering our special services. D. Membership Two people are up for reenlistment. E. Update on ADA Leadership Network Shari discussed with Pat of DBTAC about telephone conferencing and the possibility of including others in the "loop". F. City Manager Update Jeff Weldon starts Dec. 7. G. Staff Addition Another person is soon being added to help with imaging, televised meetings and more. An ad is coming out next week. Other news/ future agenda items: Nancy reported on Residential database for "Brookings Empowerment" The City Council will soon develop a Transportation Board.
