HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 91-1994 RESOLUTIOH N0. 91-94 WHEREAS, voting ie one of the most cherished rights of citizens in a free society and the fundamental process by Mhich democratic institutions are ehaped and preserved, and WHEREAS, the United States of American presently suffers one of the loMest voter turnouts of any industrialized democracy, and WHEREAS, having children participate Mith their parents in the voting procese has been proven to stimulate the children'e interest in politics and to encourage more parents to vote themselves, and WHEREAS, KIDS VOTING is a program created to enable children to actually accompany their parents to polling places and to cast simulated ballots on candidates and issues, and WHEREAS, KIDS VOTIHG is expected to increase voter participation in the 1994 South Dakota General Election by five percent, and WHEREAS public echools are the most appropriate location of the KIDS VOTING program to be preeented to children and ehared Mith parents. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Brookings City Commission does publicly and rholeheartedly endorse the efforts of the KIDS VOTING program to improve the quality of our democratic institutione today and to ensure their success in the future.
